Light Yagami, aka Kira, is by far the person Mikami respects and admires the most. Light Yagami is Mikami's one and only God, and he will go great lengths to please him, no matter what it takes. Ever since receiving the Death Note, you could say that his life completely revolves around Kira.
The anime and manga end a little differently, regarding Light and Mikami. In the anime, Light tells Near and the others that he's never seen Mikami in his life, causing Mikami to become completely crushed. He looks like a kicked puppy! It's so sad, I swear. Being held back, he is then forced to watch the end of Kira unfold right in front of him. After Light is on the floor, barely alive and bleeding, Mikami goes insane (yes, literally) seeing his God like this, and stabs himself with his pen, causing him to, um, explode. Like a balloon. Yeah.
Light's way of communicating with Mikami is through Takada, who is the new Sakura TV spokesperson for Kira, replacing Damegawa (who Light instructed Mikami to kill). Basically, the entire reason Light uses her is to communicate with him. Light and her have frequent meetings, so he can send messages to Mikami. When Light doesn't need her to talk to Mikami anymore, he kills her.
MIKAMI TERU?
A 27 year old loyal Kira follower who admires Kira. He secretly lurked behind the scenes of Kira related events in hopes of getting the attention of Kira himself. Surely enough, Teru manages to receive Light's attention and is given the Death Note to do Kira's job while Light is unable to do it himself.
