Depends on the context and circumstance...

Love as in romantically, or in caring very deeply?

Is it wrong? No

My first serious b/f started out as a friend...and my fiance is a friend that stood by me throughout the whole breakup and rebuilding from the previously mentioned b/f.

You just risk damaging the relationship as friends if you cross over to more, so you have to be careful.

my ex is my friend and I still love him
