My senses pricked and I lunged forward sinking my teeth deep into the flesh of a large Bengal tiger. My mouth filled with blood and I smiled letting it's limp form drop to the ground in subservient defeat. I was covered in laden armor and stood up, its massive weight no longer affecting my shoulders, which I had once thought strong. I took it off to reveal the dress, still stunning like the day I unwrapped it. My trainer, Julen, was skeptically scrutinizing me and I tipped my head back rolling my eyes, "What did I do now? That was perfect and you know it."
He tapped his foot repeatedly and raised an eyebrow with terse lips. He finally exclaimed, "Figure out what you did wrong! Then you can come back for dinner! I'm done with your insolence!", and stormed away.
I sat on the ground and laid down on my back, my face catching just a tiny ray of light. I crossed my arms over my face and caught my breath, trying not to sob or pummel something to death. I reviewed the hunt and final capture of the tiger. It all seemed perfect... to me... I reviewed slower and then found my mistake. It was so minute I was astonished Lord High and Mighty Pants even bothered to catch it, then I was angry at his stupid fickleness, he could never EVER let me do everything correctly. There was always something wrong.
I had forgotten to fix a loose strand of hair for longer than a minute.
I threw my arms out violently and they plummeted to the ground, hitting with a loud thud. I lay there for a minute, letting the throbbing in my arms begin and quickly recede. I didn't need dinner.
I got up and rubbed my eyes, looking down at the killed tiger and slinging it onto my shoulder. I carried it to a clearing where a small black tent hung in the corner like a mouse hole. I let the tiger down on a pile of ashes and started the fire around it, letting it burn. I held my nose and climbed into the tent, trying not to smell the fried tiger. I was somewhere in a vast forest and mountainous wasteland 400 miles from base camp. Imported beasts roamed freely everywhere and I constantly had to be aware.
A large commotion started to the right of my camp and steadily moved to the front, I got out of the tent and crouched, slinking into the cover of the forest. I saw Jasper and Aleyn burst into the clearing, positively destroying one another with huge smiles on their faces. I slammed into the center of them to break them apart. They both fell backwards and onto the ground, stopping abruptly.
Aleyn stood up and smiled at me, rubbing the back of his neck, "Hey Saki! How are you my little wolf babe?"
I rolled my eyes, "Stop being idiots in my camp site. Don't you have your own space to torture and annihilate?"
Aleyn laughed, "Yeah, but it's so fun to visit and piss the hell out of you!"
I punched his arm and made a face, "You really are two brain cells short of a slug."
His laughed caught and he frowned, "At least I'm not weak and small."
In truth he wasn't, at 7 feet tall and muscular to a tee, he was absolutely the most powerful (in brawn) vampire I had ever seen. But his fatal flaw was his stupidity, he could ram you into the ground 1000 fold but he couldn't figure out how to get to you fast enough.
I lunged at him and Jasper jumped between us-- my fists met what felt like cold hard steel. I stopped abruptly and glared over Jasper's shoulder at Aleyn, "You're lucky Jasper likes you."
Aleyn huffed and pushed past Jasper and hugged me, I squirmed, "SURE YOU PROTECT HIM BUT YOU DON'T PROTECT ME!" He let go and laughed at me, stepping off into the forest and speeding away.
Jasper laughed and shrugged, "You need to loosen up, Julen must be rubbing off on you."
I curled my fists, "Ugh, don't say that, I hate that stupid ******** face."
He sat down next to the fire and tilted his head, "What now?"
I paced, "Well I hunted this awesome tiger right.. and then he goes all pissy after I kill it because he said I made a huge mistake, when I know I didn't. Then he goes off all 'figure out what you've done and then you can come to dinner!'. So I think about the hunt cause I'm a good student and realize I left a piece of hair untucked for more than a minute. Does that even matter?! No. But he's an idiot and assanine so he MUST care because I can't ever EVER do ANYTHING right!! Agh!"
Jasper's eyes widened slightly and then relaxed, "I know that's unfair Sakir, but he is your trainer and he wants perfection. You need to be the absolute best or you'll die. There's no other way around it."
I collapsed on the floor, "He doesn't like me because I'm a werewolf, and a girl at that."
Jasper sighed, "Prejudice runs deep, I realize that, but that cannot ever stop you. Beat them. Show them you're above them for thinking that way about you."
I looked up and said snidely, "Since when did you take counseling lessons?"
He narrowed his eyes, "You're so funny."
I smiled, "Sorry, I just want to leave already. This place is killing me with its perfection."
He stood up and looked into the forest, "We will leave soon, I know that, the battle grounds await and the werewolf forces are coming by the thousands. There have been small skirmishes already. I've heard recently that Darius has been injured severely and Jade misses you terribly."
I wiped my leaking eyes, "I miss her too... more than ever. She's the one of the few who can make me laugh and smile without even trying."
Jasper looked down at me, "Oh, is she your love now?"
I shook my head, "Jasper you know that's not what I meant.."
Before I knew what was happening he pinned me to the ground and growled ferociously, "Let's see how well you do against me." He smirked and let his hands travel down my sides and between my thighs. I caught my breath, "Funny, I think my enemies won't spend time seducing me."
I threw him off so hard and quickly he hit the branch far above and clung to it like a monkey. I watched him through narrowed eyes and slunk along the ground, my dress weaving over the ground like a silken emerald snake.
He was down the tree in a split second and charging at me so fast I could barely see him. I jumped into the air clawed into his chest--- or so I thought.
I met air and he was above me, crashing down onto my skull. I collapsed to the ground, my head swimming, but my senses aware. He was coming at me yet again, this time with a large sword in his hand. I jumped up and blocked the sword with the iron on the backsides of my forearms. I shoved him off and slunk to the lower right shooting up and sinking my teeth into his neck.
There was silence and then the clatter of the sword on the ground. I stepped back and looked at him, his once pleasant dark blue eyes were nearly black and his mouth was slightly open, a ring of bright red on the inner part of his lips. I spoke so soft, a normal person would simply think I was breathing, "Jasper..."
His shoulders arched and he shuddered, his eyes fading to a dark blue again. I moved to touch his face but he turned away, walking back to his camp and breathing, "Meet me at my camp at midnight..."
I took at step after him, wanting to ask Why? and What did I do wrong?, but did not.
I felt a cool sensation on my shoulder and saw a puddle of bright rid venom on my shoulder. My eyes widened and I tried not to scream as I wiped it off with a shirt, the venom leaving no stain or hint that it had been on the dress, but on the shirt a large black blotch was left, almost forming directly to the shirt.
What.. the hell?
