Maybe it's just me, but the rainbows of childhood are crumbling around us. Back in my day (whoa, way back in the early 90's) there were wholesome cartoons, and violent cartoons. There was the mindless fun of the Animaniacs, right next to Sailor Moon. For me, I was surrounded by the 80's, so I grew up with the Care Bears, Rainbow Brite and Popples as well. In my day, Barbie was dating Ken, and didn't get tramp-stamps.
The amazingness of the Sky Dancers, Rainbow Brite and the Care Bears have now been either all but lost, or re-written. I've denounced the 2000's Care Bears, they don't exist. I'd rather Care-a-Lot fall into dis-repair, and all of the purity and caring in the world disappear than accept this version of them. Rainbow Brite, I've heard, is in the works of being 'revived'. Please, for the love of love, don't. I may not remember much of Rainbow and the Colour Kids, but I don't want to have to suffer through a new-version.
Maybe there's just something about me, where I'm the only who cares. Maybe I'm not alone, though, and maybe you agree.
I'll close with a song, from an old favorite show.
"Brings a shinning light to every face, shines for all to see, To make the world a better place, Rainbow Brite and Me!"
I'm with ya, Wisp... you 'n me, 'n the Care Bear's, and my childhood toy-army.
