"Matilda... whats wrong..? why are you crying?" Edward's gentle hand went to cares the young woman's face, but she pulled away, swallowing back her tears... she couldn't marry Edward, now have thwe children she wanted so bad.. they would be blonde, like herself and him, with light aqua eyes, considering her eyes were a light sky blue, his a never ending emerald green. She looked up into his face and forced a smile, placing her hands around his. "It's just.. were never going to see eachother.. ever again... Im going to die tomorrow Edward.." she whispered, her head bowed now. Edward drew back, she was right of course... he knew this, he knew it qiute well. He couldn't say anything either... but the words did come to him in a moment. He wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his cheek on top of her head, taking in her scent, her soft frame. His fingers caressed the black velevet at her hip, the dark grey silk at her back.... "I love you.." he said softly, slowly.. She smiled sadly and breathed deeply, tears streaming down her face in transparent ribbons. "I love you too Edward... tomorrow, can you please... come with me.. I mean, can you be there for me? I dont want to go withput.." but now her words were lost in long, dragging sobs. But he knew what she meant, and he would do it for her, even if it hurt.. it hurt so much, to see her cry the way she was, to know that tomorrow was the last day.. and tonight, the last night.. "I promise Matilda... " he whispered, himself now tearing relentlessly. They sat there for the longest time... just holding each other, crying silently. And that night, they spent every minute, every second, relishing those last few moments they had together.
That morning, the bell in town square rang three times, loudly, rythmically. Edward stood in front of a large wooden platform, where Matilda was standing.. looking so beautiful, so sad... Her long strawberry blonde hair was in tendrils about her neck, wuith a high bun at the base of her scalp. Her light eye's stared sorrowfully at the worn wood at her feet. She wore a long black dress, silk, shimmering in the morning light. A few family members were there.. and the man responsible. Leon Ledon, the man that had seen her and his driver together. Edward stared straight at her, forcing her to connect her gaze with his. Tears feel from her eyes but she didnt sob, she stood fully upright as the noose was laiden around her satin neck. Leon Ledon's voice commanded attention " Matilda Derosies, do you understand what your bieng punished for?" he asked cruelly, his face stern and sullen, but his eyes dancing happily. Edward clenched his fists inside his coat pocket. Matilda answered shakily, her voice cracking. "Yes.. Master Ledon"... The bells rang...after the third bell .. the hatch in the wooden floor of the platform would fall, and Matilda would twitch... twitch.. die.

His eye's closed, his head bowed... the hatch swung open, and Matilda hung.. choking, dying slowly. Her heeled boots clicking together. Edward bit into his lip so hard he drew blood, and he choked back a sob. There were cries all around him, all over.. so loud, Edward felt he would die himself. He slowly opened his eye's dreading the sight before him... Matilda was slowly spinning on the rope, her chin lowered... eyes gazing, the same way she was gazing at him, pleading for him to never forget, and never stop loving...
