Short Story For Creative Writing Unit [Rock world] Ek D;

A round little ball rolled across the ground as Tara and Jamie walked through the street, Jamie grinned and picked up the ball, throwing it back at the ground with full force. It bounced up high, then bounced across the ground little by little. It rolled down toward the sidewalk and they kept walking. Tara smiled slightly, humming; while Jamie played with a rock from off the ground.
“I wonder what it would be like if rocks were like humans, and humans were like rocks…” Jamie muttered, staring at the rock more. They kept walking until they reached a bench, Tara sat down, crossing her legs and looking at Jamie like she was an alien.
“Your so weird sometimes. But that’s why you’re my best friend.” She hugged her and thought of it. What would it be like?
When Tara went to bed that night, she kept thinking about it, but finally drifted off to sleep.

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.
Here comes another20load of rocks… I thought, staring at the ground, which was right under me, it shook, as the rocks came through.
“Hey Jamie!” one of the rocks called to another. This specific rock looked sort of familiar. It had blue jeans, and a poka-dotted tank top on. Most of the rocks are just like humans used to be, except that their face is blank, grey, and hard like a rock...and the humans are like how rocks used to be. Their head is round, and they lay on the ground lifeless, except for their thoughts.
The other rock, Jamie, turned around, looking at the one who called her. Nodded, laughing slightly. “You look like a complete mess Tara! Your outfit today is horrid!” she laughed more.
“Oh gee thanks!” she giggled as well, of course they were joking. They were best friends.
I smiled lightly, watching all of the rocks have fun, I wish that was me again…
Tara and Jamie sat down on a bench outside of school. Talking and laughing loudly. Someone kicked a person next to me. I looked over and smiled.
“Hey.” He said, smiling lightly.
“Hey, where you from?” I asked.
“Other side of town; this rock finally stopped kicking me around. I’ve been at it all day.” He sighed and looked at me. “So how long have you been here?” he asked.
“Few weeks” I smiled lightly, not wanting to blush.
“Oh, well where are you originally from?” he asked, grinning slightly.
“Um…I don’t really remember, a few miles away I guess. I got picked up by a bird, which landed in that tree.” I looked up, and as I did so, so did he. “I dropped from there to here, since then, I’ve been here.
“Oh, well I was in a garden before here, then a dog was scrapping at it, and I flew onto a sidewalk, where a rock started kicking me.” He sighed lightly, even20though we both knew we’ve had much worse. A rock came running toward the bench, and stepped onto me.
‘OUCH!’ I screamed in my head. The rock moved so he was next to Tara, and off of me!
“You ok?” The guy that had swung over here asked. Wow…I haven’t even asked his name…
“Yeah…fine…” I mumbled.
“Ok, good.” He winked at me and blushed more.
“So I’m Erica.” I grinned, wanting to know his name.
“Heh, nice to meet you Erica.” He blushed a little, as well.
“You are?” I asked, getting a little frustrated.
“James.” He smiled hugely.
“Nice to meet you James” I said, a little light headed from being stepped on from a two-hundred pound kid.
“You don’t look so well, you ok?” he asked.
“Just fine” I lied.
“Ok, just making sure…” he winked at me, and I grinned. He’d make me feel better. I giggled at the thought.
“Um…So what do you do all day here?” he asked, since no other people were around me.
“Pretty much just watch rocks go by, think of my old life, and listen to rocks talk about their hectic lives all day.” I sighed. Boring life…
He nodded and sighed. “Sounds kind of lonely.” He muttered.
“Yeah…It is…” I frowned and stared up20at Tara and Jamie and the fat kid.
“Heh, so where do you originate from?” he asked.
“I came from a canyon in Pennsylvania.” I nodded and he looked at me.
“Family?” he asked with concern.
“Nope. Just was dug out there and don’t remember anything before it.” I sighed again and looked down.
“Oh…that’s kind of sad.” He muttered.
“Yeah. But that’s life…” I said.
“Yeah I guess it is…” He sighed.
Life as a human sucks…. I thought, staring up at the kids on the bench. “Huh, I wonder what it would be like to be a rock…” I muttered, talking to myself.
“I don’t know, probably great…” James said quietly.

Tara woke up with light shining into her room. It dimmed and she smiled softly. “I know I would hate being a rock…” she muttered softly. Throughout the day she slowly forgot her dream. But was it a dream?
