Oh hi…
“Race is a thing, people visualise characters a certain way, and it’s not racist at all to be surprised when they didn’t visualise them same way, or even the same race, that a movie producer did.”
I focus my energy on Rue and Thresh because there is enough evidence IN THE BOOK that I can refer to that strengthens the argument of them being the race that they were cast as. This isn’t about a movie producers interpretation. Peeta not being pudgy or Haymitch suddenly having blonde hair… that’s what the remaining 25% of my tweets ought to be about that you’re trying to refer to.
People on Twitter that are LOLing and WTFing about them being black are doing so because they expected them to be white and now feel like they have a reason to be agitated about it.
Get off your high horse and stop accusing people of illegitimate things.
As for my high horse, I have no need for one. This isn’t about me or about wanting to bask in some kind of glory. If it were, I’d have my name and picture attached to this blog. However, if I were up on a high horse, I’d most definitely be looking down on you from it.
The best way to keep racism alive is to talk about racism.
Nice!! So what you’re saying is that when we see racism running rampant over something as trivial as movie casting, we should all just sweep it under the rug and look in the other direction because there’s nothing to see here and everything is peachy-keen!!
Right, but… no. I’m going to address it and do what I can to combat it. And yes, that involves collecting these tweets and leaving the big ugly mess right here for everyone to see so that we all know there’s a big problem out there and it’s not to be ignored.
