Once upon a time I went to college with the intention of becoming an astronomer. It was a career that I wanted to pursue since I was a child. I would often watch the night sky with my telescope when I was younger. I saw many interesting things as I observed the sky, and everything I observed made sense to me, except for one thing.
One night, I was observing Sirius, the brightest star in the sky located in Canis Major beneath Orion. I often watched Sirius and saw nothing out of the ordinary, but this night Sirius was different. It had two spiraling, nebulous 'tails' coming out of its left side.
Unlike our sun's bursts and solar flares, this material did not seem to be made of plasma. It wasn't particularly bright, and it had a dusty appearance, much like a reflection nebula. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable in the field of astronomy has an answer for what I saw.
I certainly don't have an answer for it, but what I saw was beautiful.
