The second half that SHOULDN'T EXIST to "Kiss The Girl."

The strokes were made to get back to the docks. Still, the two were shrouded in an awkward silence. He knew that she knew what he was going to do. Not only that, but he knew that she was disappointed. Well, she wasn’t the only one. He wasn’t the same, that was a given just by looking at him. The cards hadn’t been in his favor and put him in the position he was in now. But, that didn’t mean that Odette wasn’t to his favor. She was possibly the only favor life was dealing him right now.

Watching as her gaze shot back towards the town of many lights, gun shots, cat calls and whistles, James knew there would be no peace for them once they got back. Out here in the bay appeared to be the only calm either of them would receive if they ever wanted it.

He had missed his chance before because of his moral’s, but now was the most perfect of times. It was the only moment he had where they would be alone, together.

Emerald’s glazing over, he pulled the oars back into the boat.

This clearly caught Odette’s attention once more.

She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word

What on earth was he doing now? Couldn’t he make up his mind, clearly in more ways than one? He had been aiming to kiss her, but then backed down. Now his word of going back into town was stopped. With a faint sigh, she looked away once more. No words falling from her lips, her glance was set on the small ripples that flowed out from the side of the boat.

This night was spiraling down quickly. She knew what she wanted, but she wouldn’t do anything until he knew what he wanted.

If that time would ever come.

Until you kiss the girl

He knew what he had to do.

No.

He knew what he wanted to do.

No, not that either.

He knew what they wanted to do. And how hard could it really be? You could miss. Your stubble could get in the way. You could sneeze. You could tip the bo-- Rolling his eyes and giving his head a shake to rid himself of such thoughts, he opened his mouth before he brought it back shut.

How in the hell was he going to do this?

Don’t be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl

“Odette, my apologies.”

Looking back at him, she blinked. “For what?”

A deep breath. “For not--”

Don’t stop now
Don’t try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl

“For not doing what I intended on doing. To be quite honest, I had intentions of--” He was making a fool out of himself. This was a given. He could tell just by the small smile that stirred from the corners of her lips. Finding himself giving off a nervous smile of his own to play things out, he pressed on.

“My intentions were to--”

His heart started to pound. Odette was moving closer, the smile more prominent and those eyes of hers twinkling just as the stars did in the sky above them.

“Your intentions were to--?” she asked, that mocking tone coming into her voice.

You’ve got to kiss the girl
Why don’t you kiss the girl
You gotta kiss the girl

With a confident laugh, James raised his hands, cupping the sides of Odette’s face. Thumb’s caressing at her cheeks, he dipped his head.

Forehead-to-forehead, the two stared into each other’s eyes. It couldn’t be any more perfect. There was no possible way that it could be ruined either. The opportunity was there, right in front of him.

This time, he’d take it.

Go on and kiss the girl

“My intentions were to kiss the girl.”

With a soft laugh coming from Odette, as soon as her eyes fell shut and she gave her lips a slight pucker, James met those lips, his own curling into a smile against hers.
