My footsteps echoed through the forest as I ran through the trees. Every now and then, a random creature would pop up out of nowhere, startling me, but it was quite easy to dodge out of thier way. There was nothing dangerous about them ... I think ...
My muscles began to ache. I couldn't reacall for how long I've been running in this direction. It could have been for a few days, for all I know. I couldn't even remember why i was running; if I was running away from something, or chasing something.
I encountered a fallen tree in my path. As I stopped to look for a way around, I used the oppertunity to take a break. I sat down and rested against the trunk. It was huge! Had to be over ten meters in diameter and once stood over three hundred meters tall! I was amazed to see that such a gigantic tree could have fallen ... Then again, a part of it was shattered to peices, as if something ran into it and knocked it down. But I couldn't think of anything that existed in this world that could possibly be big and powerful enough to knock it down ...
After my breathing regulated, I stood up to examine the tree even further. There weren't any signs of decay yet, so it must have been knocked down recently. There were scratch marks all over it too ... Large ones. If they were claws, they would have had to be over three meters long to make them that deep.
Whatever, what difference does it make. I just need to find a way to get around this thing and move on. Wait ... Move on to where? I don't even know where I'm supposed to be going ... Come to think of it, I can't even remember my own name ... Or where I come from ...
Oh boy ... Not good ...
I sat back down and leaned back against the tree. I tried to think back about what I was doing earlier during the day. Nothing came to mind. Maybe it's too far back for me to remember, so I tried to think about the reasons why I was running and into this direction. A small image appeared inside my head, but it slipped away before I was able to interpret it.
I stood back up and observed the area around me. For some reason, it all looked familiar; but I couldn't remember why. I searched around. I walked over to where the trees roots were sticking up and out of the ground. There was a huge footprint not too far from where I was standing. It's bigger than me! Though that's not really saying much. But still, whatever made that foot print ... It would be huge ... A monster ...
I didn't want to stick around to find out in case it came back, so I quickly ran around trying to find a way to get around the tree. On both sides of it were two streams. I couldn't see to the bottom and couldn't estimate the depth, plus the currents would be too strong for me. I'd be pulled back to where I'd started before reaching the other side.
I decided to make a path over the roots of the tree. It would be diffucult and messy, but it's better than jumping into freezing-cold water that'll sweep me off to who-knows-where with the possibility of drowning.
It took a little over half an hour for me to climb over to the other side. As I dropped down, my entire body spasmed, and I collapsed onto the ground. I realized that my head was bruised up and bleeding badly, and my clothes were torn to bits. Guess that would explain the memory loss ...
I continued to inspect my self further to make sure there was nothing more serious. I also discovered that I was equipped with two swords ... Well, at least two hilts for them.
As I began to wonder what I might possibly could have been doing, I heard a thunderous roar burst out from behind me. I quickly jerked around and flinched as I began to notice the stiffness in my neck.
With the tree blocking my veiw, I couldn't see anything, but I could hear and feel something stomping and heading in this direction. I didn't want to find out what it was, so I turned to run just to have my legs give out on me.
Darnit!! Not now!! Now of all times when I need my stregnth the most is when you choose to let out on me!?!?!?
Another roar echoed throughout the area, this time above me. I looked up, and I was staring face to face with the monster. If it weren't so hunched over, it would have towered over the tree tops easily. I saw two muscular arms that dragged a snake-like body across the ground. It's face looked like a human skull with two beady red lights for eyes, with long thin hair running down its face. It came clear to me that this is the culprit, and the answer to all my questions about the tree.
Based on what I could see, it was beat up its self. As it unleashed a mighty roar, I quickly turned around to get up and run. The last thing I remember is its giagantic claws crashing down across the left side of my body, and sending me into a cold, watery, hell.
