About

Anyway women are in general much less romantic and more practical. Don't be mislead by the fact they are more 'sentimental' in words - freer with 'darling', and all that. They do not want a guiding star. They may idealize a plain young man into a hero; but they don't really need any such glamour either to fall in love or remain in it...
-J.R.R. TolkienExperts on the Problem of Evil were known as theologians. These were very erudite primates, skilled in primate logic, who
wrote long books trying to answer the question "Why did God create an imperfect universe?"
"God" was their name for the hypothetical biggest-alpha-male-of-all. Being primates, they could not comprehend how
anything could run if there weren't an alpha male in charge of it.
They assumed the universe was imperfect because it was obviously not set up for the convenience of the domesticated
primates.
-Robert Anton Wilson, Schrodinger's Cat, pg. 124Awareness costs us innocence, that's the beauty and ache of it. Winter and summer, you see, are things defined by each other. But - as my uncle knew that afternoon and I know now, and now and then are not so far apart as all that - the cost of a thing is a measure of its value, and experience casts a particular kind of sweet light over the small good things a life can hold.
-Mary Borsellino, West of the Moon: SwingA man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.
-Albert EinsteinThe Savage shook his head. "It all seems to me quite horrible."
"Of course it does. Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand."
-Aldous Huxley, Brave New World, pg. 221(1) since the one sure thing we can say about fundamental matter is that it is vibrating and, (2) since all vibrations are
theoretically sound, then (3) it is not unreasonable to suggest that the universe is music and should be perceived as such.
