Animal Cruelty
From the beginning of civilization, man has used animals to do his bidding, whether it be pulling the plow, on the dinner plate, or as a friend. Man has also made sports out of many animals instinctive ways . Resulting in illegal animal fights such as c**k Fights and Dog fights witch results in great harm or death to the animals. Animal cruelty is the act of maltreatment, neglect, or abuse. The effects of animal cruelty is the unneeded pain and suffering of animals. Also some animals are pushed to attack people because they are afraid that the person may harm them. In 2007, there were 1880 reports of animal cruelty in the news. 1212 of the victims where dogs most of them pit bulls, 373 cats, and 470 other animals. There are also many organizations to help fight this terrible issue.
One of the major organizations fighting this issue is the ASPCA which stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The ASPCA is one of the only animal protection organizations that have legal rights and was also the first animal protection organization in North America. The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1886 with the policy that “animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans” and should be protected by law. The ASPCA’s main headquarters is in New York City and is a privately funded, non-profit organization. They also help other organizations to fight the wrongs of animal mistreatment with millions of people showing support across the United States.
As stated earlier, the ASPCA’s full purpose is the protection of all animals that are in need of help, Whether that be from natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods, fire, or earthquakes, abandonment, neglect, attack, or mistreatment. They also help with legal issues such as with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus acts with animals. In the past several years, the circus groups have been accused of inhumane treatment of their Asian elephants which infringe upon the Endangered Species Act. The elephants are left immobilized for a large part of their lives. Records by the circus show that they chained the elephants in boxcars on trains while being moved cross country where they were left for as long as sixty to one-hundred hours at a time.
ASPCA’s mission statement is “To provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States”. They fight to prevent all animal cruelty. In a dog fight two dogs mostly very aggressive males who have been trained, to fight in a cage, or pit. The dogs owner will sometimes cut off the dog’s ears and tail to give the opponent less to grab on to in the fight. It also confuses the opponent because dogs show emotion mainly by the movement of their tails and ears, some owners will even put the dogs on steroids leaving the dog with a better chance to win the fight . After the dogs are in the fighting area, people place bets, then, in some way instigate the two dogs to fight. The dogs usually fight until they are pulled apart or until the other dog dies. Dog fights became extensively know just after the Civil War in the 1860s. Over the past century, there have been three classes of dog fighters, street (amateur), hobbyist (middle-class) , and professional. However, in the past several years a fourth level has came shown up involving famous people in the sports and entertainment section such as the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.
Cockfighting is a bloody battle between two roosters breed to be extremely violent. Someone puts the roosters in a tiny fighting arena and agitates them to the point that they attack one another. In nature, roosters will fight for mates or territory. These skirmishes rarely last long and the roosters are usually barely hurt. Roosters in c**k fights are often trained to kill. The ASPCA has many ways that they get there information out to the general public with TV shows, commercials, fundraisers and the internet. The ASPCA works with the TV channel Animal Planet to put information out to the world about the atrocity of animal cruelty . They also use commercials and sponsors such as Sarah McLachlan. The organization has a web site that it uses to help people to understand animal mistreatment. The web site also allows people to join the ASPCA to help put and end to animal cruelty.
If by any chance you wish to help the ASPCA’s cause go to www.aspca.org for your chance. There are many ways that you could help such as you can send money to help feed animals in shelters. They also give you the opportunity to help or stop legal acts going trough legislation by allowing you to sign petitions for them. They have lobbying for animals you can participate in, and shows you sites on proper care of animals and how to adopt which is helping poor unloved animals to get a place they can call home while keeping them out of shelters that need more space. Remember that with your help the ASPCA could save many animals from mistreatment such as slaughter, attacks, beatings, killing, and poisoning. So in conclusion if you see any animal being intentionally being put in harms way always call your local animal control office.

The dogs at puppy mills are breed as often as possible to make more dogs in which they claim are pure breeds when they are not to make a higher profit. Most dogs coming from puppy mills have health issues like hip dysphasia, pneumonia, and respiratory infections. When you buy a puppy that came from a puppy mill you only make it worse yourself because the animals you most likely will bring home a sick or dieing dog. The ASPCA has many projects that help animals such as Mission Orange and ASPCAS Animal Land also there Equine Program. Such as the parrot that was lost in Japan and told the cops his name and was retunred home. Yosuke (the parrot) was found on a roof top in Tokyo later Yosuke recited his exact address and sang a couple of his favorite songs. The police looked up the address and returned the parrot to the great full owners. As you may know hoarse have been extremely important in the history of man in battle of old and pulling the plow. The Equine Program is here to make sure that houses are respected

As you may know, horses have been extremely important in the history of man, in battles of old and pulling the plow. No matter the horses health whether they are strong and healthy or can no longer walk they are still sold and inhumanely slaughtered.
