If you get a dobe, even if the ears are already taped, you still have to re-wrap them periodically. Also, if you just want to nudge the ears towards standing, you don't have to wrap them up like dane/dobe ears. You can just add a small strut.

So I don’t rudely hijack your thread with my slew of questions and admiration of your fishy knowledge I think I’ll just take this on over to your profile to clog up your comments instead! lol

Oh goodness, believe me, even if it was time consuming I would find that in itself very therapeutic. With my rats I am almost constantly messing with their enclosures, changing things around, finding new ways to improve their enclosures, and so on. Handling a living ecosystem sounds absolutely fascinating to me! It would be boring if there was no work to handle~

I have definitely seen those $1 per gallon sales at Petco’s and the like, but I have also seen this very interesting starter aquarium kit from Walmart. I know there is a stigma with purchasing fish from this store; I was going to purchase them from our local Petsmart instead. There’s a wonderful lady there who takes exceptional care of the fish. She’s such a sweetie. Anyway, so this tank has these features:
    • Size 55 glass aquarium (48 L x 13 W x 20 H)
    • Deluxe fluorescent full light hood, complete with 2 daylight spectrum bulbs
    • AquaTech 30-60 Power Filter with BIO-Fiber biological filtration and EZ-Change #3 filter cartridge
    • 200 Watt UL aquarium heater
    • Thermometer
    • Tetra food and water conditioner samples
    • Fish net
    • Thermometer
    • Easy setup instructions
    • TetraCare support information
    • Ideal for fresh water tropical fish, gold fish, or fish only salt water aquariums
    • Aquarium holds approximately 53-55 gallons of water when fully decorated

But does that tank come with some pretty handy stuff? I hear a lot of talk around the Pets forum that a heater is required for a lot of fish to keep a nice manageable temperature, especially for Betta, and the filter, but what does daylight spectrum bulbs mean? And I would think the food that comes with this kit isn’t the best for fish, right? What would you suggest as a high-quality food for fishies?

Uhm, uhm, and while I would love to have some fishy feeders for my rats from this tank I was also hoping to make it very pretty with living things like those live plants I see a lot of you use. And those fish you suggested look so pretty! How many of each would you suggest I start out with? I wouldn’t want to overstock the tank.

Also, what few fish do you think I could add just for ogling that wouldn’t be used for rat food? Or would that be pushing it?

Educate meeeee! I’m also looking on websites and whatnot for beginner care so don’t worry, I’m not going to just jump into this unprepared. smile

They totally dodged around the point in that description- oh, but these grains aren't normally allergenic! We screen for mycotoxins! Our food is nutritionally complete! (uh, ALL commercial dog/cat food needs to abide by AAFCO/whatever group in that country, which includes being 'nutritionally complete' in that the animals don't die from clinical malnutrition- so I just have to cringe at that statement, as it's pure fluff). Oh, and to end it, let's say that dry food is good for cats. Another statement of pure fluff, since (even if it was true) if dry food was good for cats, it doesn't necessarily mean that /brand/ of food is good.
"Cats are excellently equipped to handle starch"- yes, this is why they have such short intestines and have sharp teeth. Sharp teeth is excellent for chowing down on potatoes!

It's like Evolution but with less targeting of vegan consumers.

Big cat = Rain
Little cat= Jerro.

This is what will happen if you bring Jericho to your house.
