The zOMG server consist of two components;
Gaia zOMG gameplay service which handles all the game logic
SmartFox communication server which handles the Flash game to server talk
I learned everything there is to learn about how to compile the zOMG service. There is a ton of moving parts, but in general since I'm not going to add anything new to begin with. Compiling the service is a challenge not such a daunting task.
The real problem here is that the SmartFox server had a vulnerability in it. We need to either patch up the server, or make the zOMG service work with the newer version of SmartFox that doesn't have security problems. Both options are potentially very costly in time, and the bulk of my work is to determine what's the best option moving forward.
As there is a mountain of tasks I need to complete, I'll be spending a few hours each day looking into the issue and see what is the best course of action. From that point on I should be able to see if it's something that I can handle myself, or if I'll need to find a Java expert in helping me solve this puzzle.
Wish me luck!
