Mod No More
Hodamn, haven't updated this in a long time have I?

Thought I should write a little something here in case anyone notices the colour change in my name and wonders why.

Basically I've just gotten busier and busier lately, distracted with lots of different things, keep finding new things to entertain myself with and new projects to dream about. I ended up taking a break from Gaia and modding to work on my personal website and was surprised (and a little scared) to see how much more I got done when I wasn't obsessing over things here. Especially at work. Being addicted to Gaia is not good when you have access to the internet and are not in the same room as your boss so can browse freely, but actually have a ton of work to do!

I'm also finding myself becoming more and more enamored with web design, web culture and everything around it, and since that's something really helpful to my career choice I'm a bit more inclined to indulge in it than Gaia sweatdrop

Not to say I haven't learned a ton through modding. It's been a fantastic experience, and I've learned so much about communicating with people, debating ideas, trying to pacify people who panic, being firm with people who won't listen, making hard decisions. I know my less than a year long stint as a mod has only been a small dent on this huge website compared to far more experienced and dedicated mods, but I like to think I did my bit and helped some people smile I think the part I'll miss most is talking to and hanging out with the other mods - it's hard to find such a large collection of intelligent and interesting people on Gaia, and even though it sometimes made me feel dumb by comparison it really was a pleasure just to be around them ^_^

So anyway, I've just decided to retreat a little - I've left the moderator team, and will probably be around on Gaia less (not less than in my recent hiatus, just less than obsessive razz ).

Adios!

Have a good time with life, I know how it feels to get addicted to Gaia. razz Your not the only one, I know people who have been here since day 1, and still kick it strong. >.<
The web site looks great, but some links are kinda glitchy, could use some "coming soon" pages to fill in the glitches. Like, Art + Illustration, Graphic Desgin, and others.
Have fun with what you do tho, don't do something you don't like to do.

Well I noticed the change. I thought the reasons were the same but that you didn't meet some sort of mod quota for reports or something so they dumped you. In any case, glad to hear you left of your own accord.

As you can probably tell I haven't been on here much lately either, Gaia is really not a good place to hang out for adults. rofl

Good luck with your career and everything. I would add, as a piece of unsolicited advice, you probably need a little more emphasis on coding. A good designer with decent coding skills are a lot more valuable than a good designer who doesn't know much coding beyond HTML and your essential CSS. You don't need to be a guru in Flash, PHP or Javascript and the like but it might be nice if you could work your way around them and throw something up if the situation requires. Too many designers are afraid of the coding side of things.

As for your personal website. Don't take this the wrong way but... damn girl! Not another blog. At last count I believe there are about 10 gazillion blogs online now? mrgreen

PS: You may want to update your About ME section on this profile. You haven't removed your reference to your mod status.

@Futaman: Thanks for the feedback, I've changed that part now ^_^

@Kaiya-chan: Thankyou! Maybe, although I'm not sure I'd be able to handle it sweatdrop

@Staria: NO! blaugh I'm still around, it has, and thankyou!

@Chiri: Thankyou! I can't stay away for very long >_>

@Xya: I'll still be around silly, just not modding heart You'll probably still see me around SF.

@Woroni: Naw, it wouldn't make much sense to do that when there's a shortage of mods as it is sweatdrop Every little bit helps really.

Not good why? I don't care so much if people think I'm a dork for hanging out on a cute forum if that's what you mean - people who know me know that that's a very me thing to do xd

Thankyou. I'm actually proficient enough in PHP, MySQL and Javascript to put together a small scale application, although I've never been asked to in my work so far, and from the looks of things won't be asked to do much more than simple scripts. At my workplace and other design companies I've seen or been part of there's devs who do the hardcore app stuff and designers who need to do web design, print design, xhtml/css, occasional tiny bits of scripting and Flash. At the mo my weaknesses are in print design and Flash, so I'm focussing more on those things 3nodding

No comment on the site other than the fact that it's a blog? sweatdrop I've had a blog of some description for the past 5 years or so; it might be common but it's a convenient way to have my little soapbox, share what I think are pearls of wisdom, rant about stuff and pimp out other projects.
