((Second part of Jabari's quest. Opening Theme.))

Each sharp, bladed shard chips away at the shaman's ethereal shield. Though the devil's assault pounds at him like hail, he still press on, ever pushing forward. No matter what they throw at him, as long as he can find it in himself to keep pushing forward—he swings his battle axe with all his might, but just before its heavy blade meets the devil leopard's skin, he freezes. His body stops moving. His senses start numbing. His vision gets darker. And all he can see are those piercing red eyes.

The next thing he knows, he's lying face down in the dirt, covered in blisters, open wounds, and cuts of all kinds. The pain is immense. The pain is immense, and seeing this body's blood pour out from any orifice it has does not do him any good, but he pushes through it. It takes him a quick second, but he forces himself to his feet. The spirit of Oshun bathes him in her tender grace. Like water, she pours over him, healing all of his aches and wounds, and he's as good as new, or as close to it as he can be, all things considered.

The devil's power is immense, but he think it's starting to recognize his is as well. Everything it's thrown at him, he's been able to weather through it. It doesn't like that.

Jabari clenches his fist together, feeling the might of great Shango surging through. The dirt and rocks at his feet rise around him, and with a little more exertion, he causes the ground around the devil to rise. As something of a knee jerk reaction, the devil opens its gruesomely terrifying maw and shoots forth from it a dire black ball of chaotic energy, but it's already too late.

The ball is torn apart. Jabari has Flauros within his grasp, trapped within a field of gravity. He feels it struggling, fighting to break free. It claws, it shoots fire, its body flickers in and out like a light bulb—something Jabari can only imagine as a failed attempt at a teleport—it even tries to use its own dark will to turn the field against him, but by this point it matters not. He forces the field to contract. It's taking every bit of his willpower to do. He feels it fighting against him, tooth and nail—the pain it's causing is immense and heavy. Jabari's head feels like it's going to burst, the body he wears feels like it's going to collapse right before tearing itself apart, but he fights through it all just to keep the devil pinned.

While in the process, he diverts part of his energy and attention to the gateway that led the devil here. Jabari failed in preventing it from crossing over, but if he does this right, he can send it back for good. He mumbles to himself, half hoping he can recite the spell it takes to do this. But not even midway through it, he stumbles on the words, and the spell turns into a cry of desperation.

“Damn it, you are the Olòrúm! You have power over the Heavens and the Earth. You gave me this task, but if you don't help me, it won't get done! So please—” He gasps sharply.

“Damn me for the fool,” Jabari lets his emotions get the best of him for a split second, and Flauros seizes the opportunity to break free of his grip. A forceful shock wave bursts from the devil creature knocking Jabari off his feet.

As he stands back up to face the threat, he finds it has done away with its animalistic appearance. But although it chooses to represent itself as a man, it is just as, if not more, beastly than it was before. He can't make out or discern any unique features it chooses to carry itself with because its, spirit is so dark that the only thing Jabari sees is a man shrouded in a thick, black, fiery fog.

It takes a flash of lightning for the shaman to register what happens next, but the devil has him by the throat. Its long, bony fingers gripped tightly around his neck while it punches him a countless number of times in the stomach. This creature could bend the very fabric of time and space if it wanted to, manipulate the laws of reality, tear him apart atom by atom with a thought. Of course, all of this would take a little effort on its part, but it can surely be done, and there wouldn't be much Jabari could do about it, but that wouldn't be enough. That wouldn't satisfy this foul beast. Jabari's proven himself to be more than a mere nuisance. He's actually a threat, and right now, it seeks to break down this threat one agonizing step at a time.

Each blow is like a mountain ramming itself against a small tree. Jabari feels his bones literally shatter within. Oshun does all she can to repair the damage, but just as she mends, the devil maliciously breaks. Yet, he still stands. It swings its fist across his face sending the shaman to his knees.

“I still stand.”

He stands, and he fights. This is what he was called to do. This is what he shall do. These bruises are superficial. Already, they fade away. They don't slow him down in the slightest. They do nothing to hinder him. Flauros realizes there's nothing it can do that will cause Jabari to fall. As long as his spirit stays strong, and as long as he believes in his cause, this devil and all others like it are already defeated.

Now it is Jabari who moves swiftly. With the speed of the hunter spirit Ochosi—his fist can't meet the devil's face fast enough. With an uppercut, it is airborne, and with a well aimed lightning bolt, it is blasted back to the ground.

“God, please... lend me your strength. Let this devil do no more harm to your people. Remove its influence from your land.”

Jabari's hands start glowing. The light is bright. It almost blinds him with its radiance. Once again, he has the devil pinned. Once again, It is engrossed in a field of energy, and once again it struggles to break free. But this time, there's a difference. The strain, all of the pain it inflicted on the shaman before, it's not there now. Now there's a certain easiness to it.

The portal to the demon world opens up, but instead of creatures flowing out of it, Jabari sees the dark spirits fall into it. All those that were roaming free in this area fall into the dark cesspit until finally it draws in Flauros.

Its shriek is as loud and piercing as a thousand horrors being witnessed at once. The devil's realm is a place not even the demons residing there want to endure. Naturally, those who've made it out would loathe returning to its soul draining embrace.

With a sonic boom as the closing remark, the demon is captured. The deed is done. Flauros is gone for good, and with a hand gesture, the gateway is sealed shut. As the sky clears, and the dust settles, Jabari takes some semblance in what he's just accomplished, but at the same time, he can't help but feel this whole ordeal was just as much a defeat as much as it was a victory.

He stands in ruins. What was once a proud, prospering is now a barren wasteland. The demons came here, and they destroyed everything in their path. This is only the beginning, and if he can't stop the next ones, then the future is indeed dire.

His heart burns with a fiery passion as he steps into the Axis Mundi. The next place it spits him out is all the way across the world, in a tropical place, not nearly as well developed as Nigeria was before.

((And so concludes episode 12 of Neo Chronicles. Ending Theme.))
