For roughly the last year, I've been questing for a devil tail. It's been slow going and somewhat frustrating for the lack of donations. But I've been given lots of good advice and some wonderful support, both from online and offline. In keeping with some of that advice, I've split my quests between a few mules, keeping most of the stored gold and invested items on Keijibi and earmarking the gold I earn here on my primary account for fun stuff and assorted little quests.
Over the last three weeks, I've set up a series of side quests of varying size. The largest was the Dark Halo and I believe the smallest was the Angelic Microphone. It's been rather stunning the responce I've gotten. The only one that lasted in my sig for longer than a few days was the Dark Halo and even that one ended by a substantial donation of the item itself.
I'm incredibly grateful for the donations I've gotten, both to my various side quests and for the larger, more frustrating quest for my devil tail. But it never ceases to amaze me how strange the pattern of donations has been. If I were to redirect the funds I've gotten for my smaller quests back towards my devil tail, I'd have roughly 92k, based on recent market values. So... why haven't people been willing to donate that kind of g towards my devil tail?
The simple, sad reaction I seem to have lines up perfectly with something Eter said a while ago. Simply paraphrased, people like to see results when they donate to a quest. They may never see me reach my devil tail, but if I have a smaller quest for them to donate to, they'll gladly hand it over. *sighs* It's times like this when I wish I was less honest and more willing to deceive people.
