chapter 2:
There came a knock on the door Zi quickly moved off of Ton's lap as the door opened to reveal Nicoli Zi's older adopted brother."Ton come quick.Your fathers heath is failing rapidly." Ton jumped up an d bolt from the room and house. Zi followed him but went to the stable instead.Ton lived fairly far away and he wouldnt be able to run there on foot.She grabed to only two sadled horses. She quickly mounted one and held the riens of the other in her hand as she ran off to find Ton. when she caught up with him she tossed him the reins and he quickly mounted. Soon enough they came to Ton's house. He had a fairly modest brick house and a stable full of horses and stable boys to care for the horses. Ton threw the riens of his horse to a waiting stable boy and ran into the house Zi again followed suit. Zi watched as Ton sank to his knees before his father.
His father had been sick for years now and it had been common knowlage that he wouldn't last much longer. Most people were suprised that he had lasted this long. Zi closed the door and sunk to the floor she bruied her face in her hands and for the secound time that day began to cry. She had loved this man like a father. Having lost her adopted father in war when she was six years old,and not ever knowing her real father he was the closest thing she had. She grieved for the dying man although he was not gone yet. She was so lost in thought a grief that she did not notice that Ton had come out of the room. He kneeled down in front of her and took her hands away from her tear streacked face.her red puffy eyes were down cast as she stared at the floor not wanting to make eye contact with him. Ton cupped her cheek with his hand and made her look at him. His eyes were less red then hers but it was obvious that he had been crying.
" He wants to see you one last time." was all Ton said. He then pulled her up to her feet he held her hand tightly as they entered the room. Ton released her hand as they approcahe dthe bed. zi kneeled down next to the bed. The man that lay there looked older then his years in a way he looked like he knew all there was to know about life. His breathing was ragged and voice was soft. he slowly truned his head so that he could look at Zi.
" you will be gorgous just like your mother was. Its a shame that you look nothin glike your father. Will you promise me to look hard for there spirits i fear they are not at rest?" he stopped every couple of words to catch his breath. Zi mearly nodded at his request." Find Fire and you will find what your heart has been looking for." He stopped again areach for Zis hand he squezed it reasuringly then took Ton's hand and put it on Zi's" Ton take care of her.Shes our only hope. there is a great prophecy about you two when you find Fire ask her about it." he then looked at his wife."My darling it is my time do not be sad. I will finailly meet up with our dear friends. tonight I shall banquet at their table like we did so many years ago. Goodbye my love. Calena and Faytra miss you Azihiania don't keep them waiting." with this the man fell limp Ton's mother brust into tears above the mans body.Zi and Ton slowly left the room. They stood in the hallway trying to grasp what had happened. Zi tried hard not to let tears fall for the trid time. although it appered to be a losing battle. A battle that TOn had already lost.He crumpled to the floor silently crying his face buried in his hands. Zi knelt down next to him and wrapped her arms around him as her own tears leaked from her eyes. She felt as if her world had just come to a crash end. that everthing she knew to be true had just fallen to dust in her hands. Wave after wave of greif rushed through her body seeping in to her blood stream it sapped all happiness from her being and replaced it with grief and regrets of ht elife she wished to have shared with the now deceased man. She cried untill she couldnt cry any more and even then she felt the grief. She hated the feeling,She hated how it reminded her of her adopted parents deaths and the pain it had caused her. She knew it had to be worse for Ton after all it was his father. He had stopped crying but was still shaking fromthe sudden pain that had ripped his body. The pain that had broken his heart in two. A break that he was sure would never mend completely. He slowly pulled away from Zi. he looked in her eye s and noticed the exhaustion hidden by grief he carefully picked her up and carried her to his room. When he got there he noticed she had already fallen asleep he laid her on the bed and covered her with the blankets and queitly left the room.
