Carpe Diem Ad Muertum
Sieze the day, to the death. There is no potential that shall be passed by, there is no piece of glory to fall by the wayside, there is no soul to left unsaved by the brilliance of language. As writers, we are gods.
Magic and Wizardry
Watch closely- abra kadabra, Pledge to Turn...
And the bird is gone!
Were you watching closely?
Because the Prestige is waiting.
It's waiting...
Alakazam! And here's your bird.

I hate getting my hands dirty,
But bird blood stains, and the other way is expensive.
Smash the poor creature, let it's brother live.
Always keep a spare up your sleeve;
That one's only glad to be alive.

Pledge your soul, offer a Turnless deal-
Sacrifice everything for the Prestige.

Saw a man in half- use the bloodproof coffins
Cut off some fingers, a hand, an arm; get a crowd.
An eye's not much price to see them turn at the Turn-
Sacrifice everything for the Prestige.

Wizard's are lucky- they Pledge no Turn.
Wizards lose nothing, and gain the Prestige.
They can Pledge you a horse, and Turn it to rhino,
But they've lost nothing and gained the Prestige.

Magicians are not nearly so clean
Their Pledge is a woman, or a cat, or a boy.
They Turn to the audience, say no one will be harmed,
But the risk is there, if there's to be a Prestige.

Give me your wife- no, give me your son.
In fact, give me both- I'll put them in a box.
I'll strap them down tight, put flaming swords in their hides;
The blade in their throats, if I fail,
Won't let them scream.
I hired doubles for them, knew you'd be here with them.
Knew I might slip.
Only the trickle of blood from my box
Once they've Turned
May have the chance of ruining my Prestige.

There's no proof on me- you're family's gone, in a box
That I Pledged you all.
And the doubles- they've more parts to play.

I Pledged my soul in a Turnless deal
To sacrifice everything-
Because everything's worth it-
Because it was already lost-
When I realized what cost-
Lay within the Prestige.

So I saw "The Prestige" today. Excellent, excellent movie. This poem is dedicated to it. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to, and those who have understand this poem a little better (or faster, at least) than those who haven't. Lots of trickery and plot twists in that movie- keeps you guessing. Loved it.

Now see, that poem did a better job of convincing me to see this movie than your persuasive speech skills did (or was that Die Hard? Anyway...); I think this sufficiently proves that you must debate me henceforward using poetry rather than prose if you want immediate effect, roller coasters included biggrin .

But I haven't seen Live Free or Die Hard yet, so I can't write about it. Plus, it's not exactly a poetic movie (though I suppose that does less than aid my argument in its favor). I can write about Transformers, though; I'll have to do that next.
