These are a couples poems that my friend wrote.... what do you think?
Competitiveness
Who doesn’t like a little competition?
Isn’t that what America is based on?
Always trying to be better than your neighbor.
Simple competition can do a lot for people.
Maybe it’s a game or race or maybe for a job.
Competition gets you blood pumping,
It gets the adrenaline flowing.
There is no better feeling than the one from competition,
The feeling that you can do anything,
The feeling that you’re better than anyone.
Competition is what fuels people,
It gives them something to do, something to beat.
Who has never heard that a little healthy competition is good?
In the same way, the lack of competition is bad.
People who lack competitiveness, lack motivation,
They are scared, they think they will lose.
Yet these people must realize something,
Everything in today’s world is a competition.
Whether it is for that one scholarship, that one promotion, that one girl.
People who lack competitiveness will never get what they want.
Competitiveness, it’s what fuels us, what drives us.
We all want more than what we have.
It’s not in some of us, it’s in all of us.
It’s just a matter of if you can find it in you.
Where will I be?
Where will I be next year?
Where will life take me next?
I know I want to get out,
Out of Duluth to experience freedom,
But where will I be?
I’d like to go to Collegeville,
Attend St. Johns and cheer for the Johnnies,
But it’s so expensive, how am I supposed to pay?
Maybe I’ll go to Augsburg, down in the cities.
To me it doesn’t really matter.
After all isn’t the only thing that matters is happiness?
If someone is happy, what else matters?
Not the people around them, not their situation,
All that matters is that they are happy.
So where will I be next year?
I’m not sure yet, but I sure hope that I’m happy.
Hold On
Life is filled with regret
Some people will forget,
But you must hold on to
The special things to you.
Hold on to the things you don’t regret
The friends that you’ll never forget
The ones that cared about you,
To pick you up whenever blue.
Hold on to the things you don’t regret
The memories you’ll never forget
Changing schools, going to state,
Making friends, your first date.
Hold on to the things you don’t regret
The family you’ll never forget
Their help and their support
Sometimes your last resort.
Life is filled with regret
Some people will forget,
But you must hold on to
The special things to you.
I Love This Game
I love this game.
The feel of the leather against your finger tips,
Sweat dripping down your face,
Your defender’s arm in your chest,
Adrenaline pumping through your veins.
The feel of air under you as you go up for a shot,
And the ground when you come back down.
I love this game.
The sound of the ball bouncing on the wood floor,
Fans going crazy cheering for their team,
Coaches yelling at their players,
Teammates communicating with each other on the court.
The sound the net makes when you make a perfect shot,
And the final horn when your team wins.
I love this game.
The sight of cheering fans watching you,
That one opening that you need,
The open man for an easy score,
The ball falling to the floor after a basket.
The sight of happy teammates after you win,
And fans overwhelmed with happiness from the performance.
I love this game.
