Domo Backpack ate my head....
Crazy adventures in this world we call, GAIA.
Terms of Service at a glance?
*feels nekkid*

First, I would like to say esdee you rock~!
Back onto the topic at hand. Well, if you've been on Gaia Online long enough you know half the population or even 95% of the population don't fully read or understand the Terms of Service. The demographic of Gaia Online are now mainly people in the age group of teens.

( ̄□ ̄;) Unfortunately, I can't find the poll forum and thread to back up my information. That poll was old but very, very handy at times like these. So, let's just discuss it without referances.

What made me type this entire thing up? I just logged into Gaia Online minutes ago and the TOS was the first thing loaded. I've read it before, several times in the past. If you understand it, you won't be confused about it. I mean, it's not hard to understand a few words like indemnify, liability, and governmental taxes imposed. I know what they all mean, but the other half doesn't.

Just for kicks and giggles;
    indemnify
    1. To protect against damage, loss, or injury; insure.
    2. To make compensation to for damage, loss, or injury suffered.
(( source: American Heritage Dictionary ))

    liability
    1. The state of being liable.
    2.
      a. Something for which one is liable; an obligation, responsibility, or debt.
      b. liabilities The financial obligations entered in the balance sheet of a business enterprise.

    3. Something that holds one back; a handicap.
    4. Likelihood.
(( source: American Heritage Dictionary ))

And governmental taxes imposed sounds what is means. Which is; You are required to pay for the taxes set forth by the Government. Taxes such as ... when you make a purchase there's usually a 5% or 10% tax on whatever you buy. Something along that line.

Bottom line of this whole thing...
Wall-of-Texts are very scary and intimidating things. I don't even read the Terms of Service for most MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) I play (since I just restarted World of Warcraft, hence this). But that doesn't stop some people for questioning and complaining about the TOS. Some don't even know about the TOS. You know; The TOS is that thing that pops up before you sign-up for things? No...I rather scroll all the way down to Accept the Terms.

You've seen a TOS...you just don't read it.
Maybe if it's summarized life would be so much easier.
But reality is harsh...life can't be easy and people won't allow it.

That is all eek

Words like that scare me, that's why I refuse to read them and just click the box. Too many rules crying

i glance over them....usually just looking for any thing "suspicious" like unwanted software or use of my name, email, yadda yadda yadda. Surprisingly enough though i have read through gaia's ToS. Thankfully it is shorter than most. i also believe it to be rather straight forward. Now if only people actually owned a dictionary and used it...... sweatdrop

For some strange reason...the TOS now compared the the TOS then. This TOS is more understandable than that of the past e_e;; I think it's me being paranoid.

I've made it a habit of at least skimming over the major points of any TOS agreement; for all I know there might be some stupid requirement or another; not all agreements are common sense, of course. whee

I've read and kinda understand Gaia's TOS, but I don't look it over too often. I know that it's there to protect Gaia from stupid people, as much as it is there to help protect stupid people from other stupid people.

Not that stupid people want to be protected. xp
