So says the woman who came from a poverty stricken home and is now one of the richest people in the world, Miss Oprah Winfrey. We can take these words on this day of celebration and remember we are now embarking on a new course in life.
This course is one with a clean slate. A script we can write ourselves. As graduates it is not only our duty to ourselves but to our teachers and to our parents to prove we earned the privilege or perhaps the right to call ourselves our nations future leaders.
A happy life consists not in the absence, but in the mastery of hardships.

As Helen Keller said, this quote I think applies to all of us. We have all had struggles and will continue to have struggles in some ways. Everybody deals with hardships but this quote is saying we cannot give up. Not giving up means we must reach into our inner most being and pull out the inner strength we have been given. In our early years, the years we are now leaving, it was up to our teachers and to our parents to give us the keys to unlock the doors in life.
Now it is up to us as adults with high school diplomas to use the keys we were once given and to use them as we move foreword.
What are these keys?
These keys consist of diligence, integrity, respect for self and others, discipline, and ingenuity. We will use these tools, these keys, and apply them with our own special gifts in whatever goal we wish to pursue.
If you want more, you have to require more from yourself.
