Gundam model saga
Lately I've been starting to get some free time to work on my own stuff during the weekends. It first started with me and CP spending hours playing Dynasty Warrior Gundam, now I'm back into building Gundam models again. I last built models when I was 11 years old, this time around I could finally afford an airbrush and build them properly to make them look good.

First came the airbrush, a "cheap" airbrush from Airtex (still cost $70 bucks)
User Image

Then I bought a cheap compressor and a big air tank seperately (compressor with big tanks are expensive)
User Image

I never knew airbrushing is so much fun! There is no "undo" button to remove mistakes, but it's surprisingly easy to control, and sometimes mistakes just make things look more realistic. biggrin Mixing colors, shading details, and sitting in the garage smelling the fumes is definitely more fun than building the model itself.

And after a month, I finally have my first two Gundam models built. Oh... my babies!
User Image
This is the RX93 nu-Gundam, I got to play with using dark blue to shade the white and black to shade the blue areas. Had to color the model twice because I didn't like how the color turned out the first time.

User Image
The Sazabi is the nu-Gundam's rival. I got to put a layer of silver underneath a layer of clear red which gave it a "new car" look. smile

User Image
This is the closest thing to being an artist as I can get. sweatdrop

Very nice job! and Gundam rocks! All Tomino's stuff rocks ^.^
Glad to see the 'almighty Lanzer' has hobbies he can enjoy.
I like the Sazabi's look. Very shiny, very regal.

edit: first comment? whoa

Very impressive. Even if that's as "art" as you get, you'll still get an A.

I used to make those. Being young at the time (I was around 11 when I made them, too), I thought they would come out like the pictures looked. Naturally, I was disappointed to learn that you had to paint them. I'd love to paint them some time, but I doubt that they'd be as awesome as yours. @_@

Those are awesome. I must say that I like the white/blue a lot better than the red one though. The detailing on the models are just superb. What's your favorite Gundam Series?

Holy crap those are awesome.

Although I rarely do it, I've always enjoyed models and messing with them, building and (unintentionally) destroying them. I've always wanted to do a Gundam model, too, because they turn out nice when you finish them.

Sometimes, being an artist is over-rated - I tend to more heavily respect things that require craftsmanship, although I think that's my jaded digital student side shining through, wanting to play with physical materials xd sweatdrop

I have poor hand-eye coordination, and wasn't a guy, so I didn't get to play with making models when I was younger. Airbrush is something that has seemed interesting to try out, but not had a chance or just surplus cash to buy one to play with.

They look pretty sweet though.

I'd probably be more inclined to get a bunch of model bits and try to build something completely different out of them ala Battlestar Galactica ships from Star Wars ship parts biggrin I'll go back to listening to the neighborhood crickets in San Diego now and stop hassling various administration with my ramblings redface

Attention Lanzer.

After seeing this, I absolutely conclude you are the most awesome person ever.

Better than those old funny guys late at night on TV.

Better than those old ladies on day time TV. [Wasn't one of their own put in jail? o__0]

Better than V0.

That is all.

I'd say you did a pretty good paint job man. domokun

I was wanting to eventaully play Dynasty Warrior Gundam. I mean I love Dynasty Warriors and Gundamn stuff is cool too so I felt that wa sa really cool move of them to make expecally since I felt they usually didn't portay the anime series all that grand in preview Gundam games cause they just felt like it wasn't an all out war and what not.

Y'know, at a convention once, you said that Gaia is your girlfriend.

I'm here to inform you that Gaia got a sex change.

He is now my boyfriend.

O.o The hairy man just assaulted me visually. Anyway, you did an excellent job with the paint. No air pockets to speak of, even coating, perfect marks.
