Illusions of Paradise// Part Eleven- Origins
I had waited six years for this moment.

Absorbed in thought as Krao tackled Kyanhmar mercilessly to the floor, I realized I could exact my revenge now. Everyone here would back my plan, having sacrificed so much just to get me this far, but of course there were those who were outside the loop such as Goyro and there was the Ace to be worried about. I had not the slightest idea what Barra had told Cosette when he was slyly working me into the Spades ranks, nor what she might have dug up on me. All I knew was that if I wanted my revenge... I had to seize the opportunity now before it was too late.

The "Roulette" had killed everything we loved right before our eyes then let the blame fall onto the shoulders of the undeserving. They killed my family- My thoughts stopped there.

I began to scream as a sharp pain ripped through my head.

The whole room seemed to mix into a muddy puddle of colors as I collapsed onto the ground, curling into a tight protective ball. Kyanhmar and Barra stood above me, talking, but I could only see their lips move as my hands clamped over my ears, the nails digging into my head to try and counter the pain. Kyanhmar was now holding Krao back for some reason, Barra shouting... My vision turned to black.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Have we been betrayed...?

Green. This new light was green. A laboratory? Yes. Green fluid against dimly lit black walls, long tables with various beakers and tubes of all shapes and colors. The room is filled with sounds of the whirrs and clicks of large machines connected to the large ominous green pillars of fluid. Something is in the pillars, floating slightly, some kind of creatures. Someone is in front of one of the columns of green, writing on a clipboard and muttering to himself while a woman standing next to him nods in agreement. Their faces are veiled in darkness, but their voices... are familiar... The scene becomes clearer, but the man and woman's faces are still unrecognizable. Human babies. Babies are in the glowing pillars: babies with wings. I notice now the woman is holding something, rocking it back and forth and whispering a calming tune into it's ear. I know that song. My mother sang it when I was little and couldn't sleep.

My mother and father's conversations become clearer as their physical features finally come into view.

"Mara..." My father spoke up, looking towards my mother with a smile that spoke of his love for her more than words could. "You know we can't keep him. He's property of the company no matter how much you dislike to acknowledge so."

"Gigane..." She sighed before smiling back. "I just don't want him to be experimented on. Even someone who isn't human deserves to be treated better than Seoul."

"Mara!" Father shook his head with an exasperated sigh. "You can't name him. You'll only get attached." My mother reached a hand out and gripped my father's arm tightly with a determined look in her eyes.

"Someone has to love this child. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's some other woman. I don't want him to end up like these children..." She looked sadly towards the babies in the lime fluid. "Seoul would have been better off having never been found. This would have never happened. Children being turned into tools of destruction."

It was me in her arms. I was the cause of all these peoples suffering and despair? I wasn't human? What was I then?

"Mara. He isn't a child. Stop calling him that. As far as we know he's not even from this planet or dimension. He's an angel. We haven't proven that yet, but we don't need to. As soon as our part of the project is done, we're leaving to live somewhere else. I don't want to be a part of what happens." Mother looked devastated as Father turned away coldly to check on another child, the clicking of his shoes on the concrete floor almost too much for her to bear.

"Seoul. I will save you."

The scene flashed a brilliant white then faded away quickly into another scene.

It was my father and mother again, standing side by side in another room with Kyanhmar and Barra opposite them in a heated conversation.

"They came too close to discovering us yesterday, Mara! We can't keep him! Let them have him!" My father yelled angrily as my mother backed up a few feet from the group, a child cowering behind her.

"Dear, quiet down. You're scaring him." Mother bent down to comfort the child while Father discussed something with Barra and Kyanhmar. Mother looked back towards them. "I'll let him go."

The conversation paused as Mother walked the kid towards the two other scientists.

"Seoul. This is Kyanhmar and Barra." She pointed to each of them as she said their names. "They're going to be taking care of you from now on. You remember Krao right, honey? Well they live with him. You can play with him again."

"Okay, Mom. I trust you." This was said rather maturely by the black haired child, who gave her a hug before following the two named scientists away.

"Oh Seoul." Mother began to weep after I was out of sight, Father putting one arm around her.

"They're going to replace his memories of this moment with one of us... being killed." Father talked quietly, not wanting to upset her more. "It couldn't be helped. Some of his other memories will be replaced too. It's for the best, Mara. I don't want him to be discovered either. He's our son."

"We both know that isn't true, Gigane."

The scene faded again into a more familiar one.

----------------------------------------------------

My eyes flickered open to a rather unhappy Krao who was yelling my name repeatedly and shaking me with a fervor. I pushed him away with one hand, then walked up to both Kyanhmar and Barra who went dead silent. Krao stood just as silently behind me.

"What am I?" I clenched my fists by my sides as I looked hopelessly at them. "What are we?"
