I sat on my bed and yawned. I looked at the picture of the White House on my screen saver that was on my computer next to my bed. In seconds it changed to a picture of the Great Wall of China. As I thought the whole world you end right then and there, I heard a creek and saw the door open. “Kat,” My mom peeked in. “Kat, are you okay? You’ve been up here all morning,” “I’m fine, Mom.” I said and turned away. “Aw, honey,” She said and she came over to my bed and sat next to me. “Are you still disappointed with your new school?” “No, mom.” I said with no emotion. “I know your sad because it is a different a little-” “Not “a little”. It’s way different. There is no “math teacher”, “English teacher”, “music teacher”- it’s all one teacher! Like elementary school! And it’s to easy!” “Well,” My mom said, “Anyway, you’re father just quit his job-” “What!” What did you say?” “He quit his job of an ambassador, he’s going to apply for a teacher-” “Dad? A teacher? His dream jobs aren’t supposed to happen! That’s why there are dreams!” “Kat! Stop interrupting me! As I was saying, we are going to stay here for good, even if your father doesn’t get the job. So I invited a parent from your class to help. She is going to paint, and design the room.” “Since when do we need help?” I asked. “I thought it would be fun. Plus her son will be here to play with you.” “Who is he? What’s his name?” “His name is Mickey I think. I don’t remember there last name... it did start with an “o” though.” “Mikey? Do you mean Mikey Oakword?” “Yes… that seems right.” I chocked. The boy who called me a “retarded ape” will be at my house. Yeah, so much for my life! The doorbell rung. Mom looked up. “They’re here!” She screeched. She got up and walked out of the room. I fallowed her. Mom opened the door when we got downstairs. A tall “big” lady with dark skin and white hair walked in carrying bags. She didn’t look like Mikey at all! “Ah, Kat. Mikey will be here in a second. A tanned skin bald boy walked into the house. He stared at me. “Ah, Mikey- Bikey- Likey. Here’s a friend. Kat. She’s in your class. Did you meet her yet?” He didn’t answer. “Er…” I stared to say. “I thought Mikey Oakword was going to be here.” Everyone looked at me. The dark skinned women looked ticked off. My mom looked a mix of stunned and embarrassed. The boy looked guilty. After that I was sent up with the boy why they worked.
I was reading. He was looking about books on my computer. None of us spoke we just sat there. Until I broke the silence. “So…” I started. “I thought you were Mikey Oakword.” He looked and me and stared. “I’m not. I’m Mike Ocherd.” “Oh, well,” I said. “Do you know him well?” “No.” He said. I decided to bring up something else. “Do you… want to study?” He looked at me. “Okay.” He said. He got off the computer and we spent the rest of the time studying.
