Michael Jackson desperately wanted to be knighted by the Queen, it has been claimed.
The self-styled King of Pop allegedly had staff work tirelessly to get his name on the prestigious honours list but was rejected.
The singer's former spokesman, Bob Jones, told US show Access Hollywood: "We spent a fortune communicating with the Queen's people to make him a knight and they weren't interested.
"He was obsessed with the celebrity image to the core. He has a throne in his house."
As an American citizen, the recently-acquitted star could only dream of becoming Sir Michael Jackson but could receive an honorary knighthood if recommended by the Foreign Office.
His downfall may have been a lack of knowledge of the system.
Jones was apparently talking to the wrong people as 10 Downing Street controls the honours list and not Buckingham Palace.
