CHAPTER 1 Brandy ran as fast as her legs would carry her, wherever they would go. She had no idea where she was going, but she knew she wasn't going back home. She stopped in a forest, breathing heavily. She slumped down by a tree, and began sobbing. Her mother had just been killed before her very eyes, and her father had left years ago, never to return. She was truly alone now. She didn't really have any family. Looking up to the sky, she whispered " I miss you". She cried until all tears had left her, and then she began to walk, looking for somewhere she could stay. It was dark and cold, and she left everything she owned at her home. "I can't go back", she thought “They might be looking for me too.” Knowing this, she kept walking, not saying a word. She looked around, and there was nothing for miles, it seemed. She sighed. Stopping for a moment, she looked up in front of her. There was a light. She squinted to see, but she couldn’t tell what it was. She ran towards it, only to see it was in a tree. She climbed up, and when she got there, she realized what she had found. A village In the trees. She glanced around in awe for a moment, before she heard a voice of a boy, about her age. “Who are you?! And how’d you get here?” he demanded. Brandy looked for the boy, until she saw him sitting on a tree branch, staring down at her. “B-Brandy..” She stuttered, “I-I’m not sure how I got here...” She looked up at him, and then at the many tree huts surrounding her. They seemed to be abandoned at the time beeing, but she could tell someone lived in each of them. The boy looked at her, confused, buut decided to change the subject. “Well, where were you going?” He asked, half-knowing the answer. “I’m..I’m not sure.” She said, staring back at him. With that, the boy jumped off of the branch and onto the bridge next to her. he took her hand, leading her to a small hut on the other side of the “village”. He showed her inside, and gave her a bed, clothes and food. “ Make yourself comfortable. We’ll talk more in the morning.” He said, on his way out. She glanced around the hut, not sure if it was safe or not. After quite a while she decided to trust the boy, and changed into more comfortable clothes, ate whatever food he had given her, and lay down, trying to fall asleep.
CHAPTER 2
Brandy squinted as her eyes opened to the morning sun. She blinked a few times and her eyes adjusted, and she stared at the celing for a moment before siitting up. She now realized she was wearing a fur skirt and some sort of shirt. She had fur boots also, to keep her feet warm. She turned and put her feet into the boots beside her bed, and stretched. After a brief moment, she got up, dizzily. She looked around the room , after the dizziness went away. No sign of the boy from last night. She wearily went to the window and looked out. No sign of anyone. She briskly walked to the door and pulled it open. Standing right outside of the door, about to knock, was the boy. "Morning.." He said, looking her up and down "you look great". "G'morning...." She started " I never got your name. " "It's Trent." He said, turning to walk away, showing she should follow. "Lets go get you some breakfast." The two walked along what seemed to be an abandoned village, towards a large hut, in the center of it all. there were multiple bridges leading to it, and two double doors on one side. Trent walked through the doors without a second thought, Brandy close behind. She walked in to a large, spacious room, with lots of tables. It looked like a cafeteria of the sort. In the center of the room, there was a statue of a woman, in her mid twenties. She was wearing a long gown, and a flower crown. Not thinking much of it, they walked past it to a table full of food. It was just enough for the two of them, and they began eating immediately. Trent finished first, waiting for Brandy to finish her fruit. Once she was finished, they exchanged glances for quite some time. "So..where is everyone? " Brandy asked, breaking the silence. "Who? No one else has lived here for years." He answered, knowing the question would come up. "So, you live here by yourself? No adults? No friends? No.. Girlfriends?" She asked, glancing up at him. "Yeah. I have for about eight years now." Trent answered. "Well, where'd everyone go?" Brandy asked. " They just..Left. I didn't want to leave my home. I don't even know where they are. I haven't seen my parents since i was eight years old..." Trent said, letting his sentence trail off into an incomplete thought. "I'm sorry." Brandy said, "I know how you feel. I lost my father when i was very young. I have no idea where he went..." "What about your mother?" Trent asked thoughtfully. " She..was murdered. Last night..." Brandy said, begining to cry. Trent looked at her for a moment, then got up. He walked around the table and sat beside her, comforting her. Feeling his presence, She hugged him and sobbed until her eyes were dry.
CHAPTER 3 "Thank you.." Brandy whispered, as she let go of Trent, and wiped her eyes. She sat there for a moment, and then looked up at the statue again. "Wh...who's that?" Brandy asked, pointing to the statue. "That's... My mother. She was the leader of the village. But.. She left with all of the others. Like our home meant nothing to them. They just threw it away." Trent replied, angrily. Brandy glanced at him, making sure he was okay. She looked down at the ground, then back at the statue. "She's very pretty." Brandy said. Trent looked at Brandy, smiling. He sat there for a moment, then abruptly got up, and walked to the back of the large room, and opened a closet type door, calling Brandy over. She walked over, wondering what he was up to. He pulled out a dress, and after further examination, Brandy realized it was the one his mother was wearing in the statue. She grinned, and looked at it lovingly. "It's so beautiful" She said looking at the gown. It was a short blue gown, yet still as elegant as a long one. "Go put it on" Trent said, handing it to her, and pointing her in the direction of the hut she had stayed in last night. Brandy walked slowly to the door, and then walked down a few bridges before getting back to the hut. She walked inside, closed the door, and put the dress on the bed. She looked at it for a moment, then slipped her boots off. She looked around the room one more time, and put the dress on. Twirling around in it a few times before getting dizzy, she went to leave. She looked around the forest as she walked back to the large room. She got to the double doors, but paused a moment and looked down at herself, approvingly. She cracked the door and peered inside, looking for Trent. Her eyes went all around the room, before they landed on Trent. He waved, and she smiled back before pushing the door all the way open and walking in. His hand dropped from his waving, and his mouth was wide open. "You...Look great. Just like her." He said, walking towards Brandy. Brandy smiled for a moment, then looked at him for a long extent of time. Trent looked back at her and smiled. After a moment, he stopped, looking confused. He gave her a motion to stay there, and stay quiet. Brandy obeyed, and Trent went to the window. He peered down, seeing a group of about four men, in their mid thirties. Trent looked back at Brandy, motioning for her to come over and look. She slowly and quietly walked over, not making the slightest sound. She peered down and saw the men, gasping. Brandy pulled Trent from the window in shock, taking him to the center of the room, before whispering to him. "Those.. those are the men that murdered my mother last night. I'm sure of it.." She stuttered. Trent sighed, thinking of what to do now. "great.." he thought to himself, frowning. "We have to leave. Now." He said, at long last.
