Okay, I recently stumbled over a great toy. It is a fractal flame generator and editor. The thing runs on Windows and is available for download here. As a part of the Sourceforge-project, it is available for free.

When I was a kid, I had a kaleidoscope and thought it was the greatest toy ever made. Now this is a kaleidoscope to the power of four.
It took me a while to get the hang of it, and I'm still in "Ooooh, what's that button/slider/script do?"-mode, but so far I managed to make some nice stuff.

My first tries are not worth mentioning, they more or less looked like this, but I got a few that are worth viewing:

• Flowers
• Rosebuds
• Butterfly Star
• Sunflower Wheel (best so far)
• Yellow Wheel
• Random Swirl
• Hexagram
• Cosmic Dust
• Butterfly Wheel

Just in case any of you like to have one as a wallpaper, I saved them in larger format and better quality on my harddrive. I also saved the flames for more editing, you can have them, too.

Some tries for Ian's request:

• Palmtrees (Meh, colour saturation is bad)
• Broken Octagon (not much better)
• Kissing Birds (just for fun)
• Cloud (getting there)
• Wing (maybe this one?)
