CHAPTER 1
The Populars

I could hear them running away, the "cool" kids in my class. My name is Brie Sillem, I'm in seventh grade and go to Elmgrove School in Sugarland, Texas. As I was saying, I could hear them running. I looked up from my book, Rick Brant and the Phantom Shark, and put my glasses back on to see Jessika Alker, one of my best friends, on the ground looking for her glasses, which was terrible since she was practically blind without them, just like me. "Are you okay?" I asked while going to her aid. "Yeah, but Josh and his crew pushed me into the dirt and stole my English paper!" She exclaimed, "They think they're so cool. "If you haven't noticed, Jess, they're popular. So that means they're cool." I explained. Suddenly, the bell rang and Jessika and I walked to our lockers to get out Math books. "Hi Brie, hi Jess," Lucas Base said to us. Lucas is my real best friend, but I don't want to hurt Jessika's feelings, so I didn't tell her that. Lucas stood there looking at us, I never realized what he really looked like. He had dark black hair and brown eyes, he was shorter than me, but most people were, he was always wearing a beanie and wore a lot of red clothing. "So did you send your demo CD to HollyWood records yet?" Jessika flipped her long brown hair and looked at me. "What demo CD?" She asked me. I had only told LUcas, but I was going to send a CD of me plating the guitar and singing, apparently, I'm good at those. "Oh, I forgot to tell you, this morning I made a CD that I thought I'd send to HollyWood records and ask for their opinion. I didn't see you this morning and I forgot to tell you earlier," I explained. Nobody was suppose to know but Lucas and Caleb. ((To the readers of my journal: You'll meet Caleb a little later)) But Lucas must have forgotten. "Oh, okay then," Jessika smiled at me, it was so hard to lie to her. After school, Lucas and I walked home, he only lives about a forth of a mile away from the diner, where I live, when we got to his house he said he'd call me later. I walked into say hi to my mom and my dog, Licorice. I grabbed a cherry coke and went p to my loft bedroom. Our diner is really a little house. I live on the third floor, the loft. The first floor is the Diner, the second floor is the living space, and the third floor is the loft, or my room. It isn't really all that bad. There are two windows, one near my daybed in the corner of the room, my desk is facing the other window on the other side of the room, then in the middle in the TV and three beanbag-chairs and a big cushy chair. I don't have a dresser, but I do have a closet with all my books and things in it. I put my bag in my closet and looked out the window by my daybed. I could see the town, the lake, and the train tracks. I also had the largest room in the house, which made me happy. Maybe I'll go for a walk I thought to myself. then ran down stairs and walked outside to the lake and climbed up the tree, just a little bit though. "Hi Brie," Caleb said. It made me jump about a mile. "Hi Caleb," I replied. "So come to mock me about my singing, again?" I said sarcastically. "Not this time, I came to skip rocks, but it looks like you beat me to it," Caleb smiled. I threw a stone into the water and jumped down. "Want to go to the diner?" I asked him. "Sure," it looked like he'd been waiting for me to say that. Caleb Martin was one of my close friends, so I saw him a lot. When we got to the diner I grabbed two cherry cokes and went up to my room and plopped down on one of the beanbag-chairs and hooked up my game cube. Caleb sat in the Orange beanbag-chair next to mine and took a sip of his soda. "Dibs on baby Mario and Luigi!" I said pretty loud. "Fine, but I get the green baby cart!" He was fast at this. "Deal," I said. Then we played Mario Kart for about 3 hours until six o' clock. "Want to stay for dinner?" I asked him. "Sure, I got no place else to go," he laughed. Dinner alone is not unusual for me, so I microwaved the leftover pizza from last night. "Dinner is served," I said in a fancy french voice handing Caleb two slices of cheese pizza on paper plates. We laughed and finished our game of Marie Kart.
