The Diary of an Insomniac
I lay down in my bed and snuggle my bear.
I close my eyes and wait for sleep to come.
I wait....and wait.....
I open my eyes and check the clock.
Forty minutes have gone by.
I twist in my blankets and make myself comfortable.
I close my eyes and wait for sleep to consume me.
I wait....and wait.....
I look behind me at that damned clock.
An hour and a half I've been waiting.
I throw the blanket off and twist to my stomach.
I close my eyes and beg sleep to come.
I wait....and wait.....
Hesitantly I glance at that evil clock.
That's two hours and forty three minutes.
I leap out of bed and pull on some shoes.
Abandoning my bed for a late night walk.
I stroll through the dimly lit park until I tire.
I lay down on a hill where blessed sleep comes atlast.
I cry out and wave my arms wildly in the air,
gnashing, clawing at my invisible attacker.
I open my eyes and realize where I am.
Why do I bother?
All that waiting and trying, for this?!
I stand up and resume my walk in the pale moonlight.
The shadows surrounding me as black as ebony.
