~~~~"Mim, haven't you learned yet? You can't go about doing such things in this day and time!"
~~~~Mim turned on her heel and started towards the door in a frenzy only to be grabbed by the shoulder and spun about to face her husband.

~~~~"Really, Mim!"
~~~~"And what will you have me do?! I won't be like the rest of this village, Arthur! I'd rather die by honor than bend over backwards for a false king!"

~~~~Arthur's eyes softened and he pulled his wife to him, holding her tightly. "I know, Mim," he said. "I know." He hugged her for a moment longer before continuing to speak. "You're to stay home tonight; enough blood has been shed. I won't have my own wife being next, and women aren't fit for things like this."
~~~~She pulled away from him and glared at the man who towered before her. "You're just as much a coward as the next man! I'm going for the well being of everyone in this village!" With that said, she again turned and, this time, succeeded in storming out of the room. Mim hadn't been out of the room more than a few moments before a small boy ran into the room.

~~~~"Mother?" David tugged gently at his mothers dress. "Mother, are you and daddy fighting?"
~~~~Mim looked down at her son and patted him lightly on the head. "Not to worry, dear," she said. "Daddy's just stressed out."

~~~~The eight year old stared up at his mother for a long moment before nodding and releasing her dress from his death grip. He left Mim there and entered the room his father and mother had been in before to find a tall, built man seated on the ground in the center of the room. The man had his hands over his face and his long hair hung low over his brown eyes, hiding them from view. David approached his father easily and sat beside him, mimicking the older mans posture.
~~~~"Don't be upset, Daddy," he said, laying his head against Arthur's arm.

~~~~Arthur smiled down at his son and rustled the boy's sandy-brown hair. Growing up Arthur had always said he never wanted children; he'd even been unhappy with the thought of taking on such a responsibility when he'd found out Mim was pregnant, but the instant he'd seen his son, it was as if all that doubt had fallen away. He felt a pride in David that he'd never experienced before, and he felt shame at the thought that he'd never wanted a son.
~~~~"Daddy's fine," he said.

~~~~David smiled and stood up, running from the room, past his mother, and out of their small hut. Mim watch him run by and only smiled. David was quite a large child for his age; he took after his father in many ways: broad shoulders, his sandy brown colored hair, and a defined jaw bone structure. But his green eyes harbored the same softness of his mothers, and he shared his grandmothers determination and stubbornness.
~~~~Mim, herself, was a rather small woman; she was lacking in height to say the least. She stood to be only about five feet tall, which was probably part of the reason her husband towered over her. He wasn't an extremely tall man, but he stood at least a half a foot higher than Mim did. What Mim lacked in hight though, she made up in spirit. She shared her mothers enthusiasm and love of everything right and just, and she would stand for nothing less.

~~~~Mim's mother, now, had been a brilliant woman in her daughter's opinion. She'd passed away around the time David had been born, but she'd surely lived her life to the fullest. She'd loved and lost and raised three beautiful children, only one of which was living now. Mim's sister, Katrina, had been raped and murdered by one of the king's soldiers, and her mother had been tried and found guilty of treason to the crown when she'd shielded her only son from being abducted into the king's army. Her brother had disappeared after their mother's death and, although it had not been proven, had been assumed to have passed away as well.
~~~~Mim shook her head, as if to free herself from the unpleasant memories. She glanced back at her and her husband's bedroom and turned away from it again, making her way out the hut and towards the center of town. She knew he'd told her to stay home, but she wouldn't stand back and not be a part of this. A revolt was about to take place, and if she had her way, she'd be at the head of it. Maleku was no king; he was a dictator and a murderer.

~~~~King Maleku had ruled for twenty one years now, after having brutally murdered Jhiana's previous ruler, King Wainja.
