Oh, Ruffian you're so great
It's sad, how your owners chose to seal your fate
At night your owners and surgeons put you down
And the whole world wears a great big frown

During your surgery, they revived you twice during the night
I could tell you put up a mighty fight
To bring everyone joy and cheer
Then suddenly leave them with fright and fear

If you had not shaken off your cast
That horrible race might not have been your last
I'm sure that riding and racing you was a blast
