Well, we had a concert yesterday. A chorus concert for our school. Not a big deal, really.
When I was younger, I might've been nervous for these, but now, I've performed so much, such a tiny concert means nothing. Actually, almost every concert means nothing. The only time I'm ever nervous is when I play piano or violin.
And now onto the Review.
First up is Melody Makers, our school's sixth grade chorus.
Despite consisting solely of sixth graders whose voices haven't changed, they have a decent tone quality. Except for one person.
I pity the chorus and their conductor, Mr. Doctor [he does all the conducting of choruses]. This one person, who's name I know not, has no sense of tone, no sense of rhythm, no sense of intonation, and no sense of music in general. If this weren't a middle school chorus, and I were the conductor, then I'd boot that person the second I hear them sing. And I mean sing in the loosest sense possible: in the way that rappers 'sing', badly and tonelessly. [Excuse me if I insulted you, but it's true. Rappers may be musicians, but they are notsingers.]
But technically, the most noticeable error was their lack of enunciation.
Second up is the a capella group, Bare Voices.
Frankly, this was missing the energy of a small and a capella chorus. The soloist wasn't the most in tune, but failed to express the meaning of the song. She stood and sang. I have to be careful not to do this when I sing.
But maybe I'm judging them too harshly. I have very little experience of a capella groups. The only a capella group I've ever seen was New Tones, the South a capella choir. And their very amazing. For a student run program, I'm incredibly impressed. I might consider joining, though I don't think I'm talented enough. The expression is amazing and the technique is spotless. But I'm getting off track.
Like the Melody Makers, they need to enunciate more, as well as put more feeling into their music. MUSIC IS AN EXPRESSION. IT MUST BE EXPRESSED.
Next on the program was the King's Men, the all boys chorus.
This one I don't really understand. It's not quite a chorus, but a branch off the school choruses. All the boys from all the choruses come here. They don't really choose to, but are required to, I believe. Well, I don't have much to say about them, except they need to enunciate as well. I couldn't tell a word they sang if I hadn't known the lyrics already.
Next was the all girls chorus, title I forget.
Despite being in this chorus myself, I frankly had no idea this existed.
I admit being aware of a couple of songs that only the girls sang, but I had no idea there was a name for this chorus. I don't what it is right now, but I assure you, there is a name.
Well, either way, we only sang one song: A Thousand Miles. The pop song. Not one of my favorites, I admit. With very little harmony, unmoving melodies, and a simplistic accompaniment, this can only be described as boring.
Next and last were the Redwood Singers: the school's seventh and eighth grade chorus.
I'd like to think we were the best, but it's hard to tell when you're in the chorus. I will neither praise nor critique myself, because what I say will likely but inaccurate, but I will comment upon what I found amusing/strange.
Firstly, I have to laugh my head off at this. We were supposed to file on stage, singing a round, but because of the choruses ahead of us, we were completely out of order. We filed onto the risers, but then had to shift ourselves and run across the stage to find our places. Very professional, no? People were still shifting spots halfway through the performance.
Second thing I must mention is the distribution of medals. Yes, you heard me right. Every eighth grader received a medal, myself included. At least there weren't too many eighth graders: maybe twelve or so? Also receiving medals were those who participated in the North Eastern Junior District Festivals [even though only the Eastern District was open to our school xd ], which meant my friend Stephanie, Mira, and myself. The medals were identical, except the Junior district ones had a plaque on the back. As it stands, me 'n Stephanie are the only chorus people with two. xp
And then there was food, and it was back to studying for the Social Studies Exam. Stupid city-wide test didn't even provide free pencils. CURSE YOU AND YOUR CREATORS.

Let's go for a revolution. Let's break down the rules and put them back together, except let's be careless and leave a few pieces out.[/color:9800d193d0]
