Jean woke up and got out of the coffin. He prepared the dining room for the proposal. He reached in his pocket and pulled out the ring. It was a beautiful diamond. It had cost a lot but it was worth it. It was a rare blood red diamond and it was huge, he had it set in an intricate gold band that was covered in tiny carvings of fluer di lis. He hoped I would like it. Suddenly he got a telepathic message from Haréré. She needed his help right away, there was a large number of rouge vampires threatinging to destroy her house and give away the secret of vampires if she didn't give them what they wanted. She didn't want to handle them on her own. Jean hurridly wrote a note saying he would be back later to me and flew out of the house and into the sky towards Haréré's home.
I woke up and got dressed. It was about a half hour since Jean had left. I searched for Jean everywhere and then finally in the dining room. I saw a beautiful spread of food and romantic candlit atmosphere was in the air.
What is he planning?I wondered. I saw a piece of paper on the table and picked it up and read it. It said:
Dear Lamia,
I'll be back later. I had to go take care of a few things, help some people. I'm so sorry. I'll see you soon. Stay inside.

I sat down and waited for a few minutes then went back to my room and got a book from the bookcase. I sat on the couch and read my favorite book while I waited. I assumed Jean would be back soon, I didn't realize he wouldn't be back for years.
