Europe trip '08: June 24, 2008
June 24, 2008

Munich, Germany
Breakfast: (on the plane) Granola bar, breadroll, and fruit cup. Better than dinner at least.
Getting my passport stamped was scary. The guy in the booth looked a bit like Heinrich Himmler... eek After check in, we eat at a cafe in the airport. At this point, I literally have not slept in 24 hours! At the cafe, I ate a "Krapfen" but to me it seemed like a jelly doughnut with powdered sugar. Bought a souvenir: A magnet made of porcelain that says "München" on it. Very cool. Think I'll give it to Dad.
2 hour flight from Munich to Madrid. The seats don't have fancy screens in them, but there's a lot more room around the seats. You're not all packed in like sardines on this plane. Still sitting with Mike and Señor, but this time Mike's in the middle and I get a window seat! 4laugh (I'm a dork...)
Okay, Here's a funny story: Alex's mom, Nikki, bought a postcard but the message on the front was in German so she asked a male flight attendant to translate it. He told her it says, "I love you, I want to taste you!" But of course, I only heard the second end of that conversation and I thought the flight attendant was hitting on Nikki. Plus he said it ridiculously loud so that everyone in the surrounding seats could hear. The line itself is funny enough, but it's funny as Hell when said very loudly and in a German accent.
Don't remember much else about the flight. Me, Mike, and Señor all zonked out for the entire flight.

Madrid, Spain
Our tour guide, Zaneb, picked us up from the airport in big fancy buses. She seems really nice (and I'm not just saying that because she picked us up in big fancy buses!).
Staying at the Petite Palace. Weird hotel. Small and weird, but nice. You have to keep your hotel card in this little slot on the wall in order to make your lights work. Plus the door to the bathroom is made of frosted glass, so if someone is in the bathroom, you can't necessarily see them, but you can see a vague image of their outline. On the plus side, we have a balcony view of the city.
Went walking around the streets with Karen, my roommate, before dinner. People in groups of less than 3 couldn't go out without an adult, but we went out anyway. Everyone else had already gone out and we didn't want to be the only ones that didn't get to see Madrid. crying
It doesn't really hit you that you're in another country until you start to walk the streets. There are shops everywhere. We went into a souvenir shop. I got two tiny fans: One for me, one for Rachel. I got my mom a toenail clipper that says "Madrid" on it, and I got a small throw pillow that says "Madrid" all over it.
Went into a mall. Malls are weird here....You walk up, not around. Ate dinner at a place called a Tapasbar, a type of restaurant characteristic of Spain. Really nice place. Good food, friendly staff.
Dinner: -green beans
-porkloaf and frenchfries
-Strawberry cream cake.
The shower in the hotel is awesome. I has little jet squirters in the walls....Mmm... whee Felt like a massage. Excellent day. biggrin

What's funny though is that the entire 8-hour flight, he watched Celine Dion Concerts

I laughed so hard I cried! I laughed for ten minutes straight, man! I am SO adding that "I love you! I want to taste you!" thing to my book. *shifty eyes*
