I better not put this update off any longer or else I might forget what happened...
Friday I rushed home from school to prepare the food for fanime. The banana nut bread got kinda burnt, but the pizza turned out alright, even if the base was kinda pale and weak looking. Msc's mom came just as we finished packing, and she drove us to the convention center. The sight of the fanime banners waving from the light poles, the crowds of cosplayers, and the long An Cafe ticket lines really make me feel at home. ^^
So anyways, we registered with a lady who had pretty skin, and set off to find the others. After finding them in the dealers room, we decided to rest in one of Hilton's hallways with all of our luggage and stuff. People totally stared at us as if we were alien hobos ( people who sleep in hallways instead of booking their own room are looked down upon) which felt both flattering and uncomfortable. I broke out my homemade food ( Alex was cautious about trying my pizza) and fed whoever was brave enough to try 'Ling's toxic cooking'. And then we waited for Alex's mom to show up with the credit card that she wanted to use.
And waited. And waited. And wai- o.O how'd she get to Santa Clara?! And...well...yeah
While waiting, we saw a whole bunch of interesting people. There was a dude who was dressed in a mascot suit, a domo, random cosplayers, a pervert who kept staring at us, and a dude in charge of the convention who was covered in blood that gave us glowsticks for the rave. Our room was alright, it wasn't smoke smelling or anything. Two beds, tv, chairs, coffee maker, and bible. Normal stuff. We lazed around for the next few hours, occasionally snacking out of the fridge or flipping through tv channels.
I got tired of resting, and decided to go to the swap meet with some of the others. Whoohoo bargains! Lain found an awesome Serial Experiments artbook, and I found some cheap manga and stuff. Masu found a dude who sold her KH for only 5 bucks, and it works! blaugh We left around 9:30 to prepare for the rave, and whoever didn't see me in my tripping outfit on shadow day got to see it as my rave outfit. K-chan, Msc, Masu, and I were the only ones who had the guts to go to the rave, and after two minutes in the place, Msc and Masu chickened out too. Which was ok I guess, 'cause K-chan and I still had fun without them. Hmph stare . Anyways, we were just beginning to figure out what to do with our glowsticks when someone who seemed like they were authority pulled us over to their group of friends and told us to have fun and dance with them.
So anyways, before I go on, I have to tell you what goes on in a Fanime rave. Basically, it's just a bunch of geeks and otakus who either are crazy or have insomnia trying to dance with glowsticks in their hand. ( I'm a crazy otaku by the way) The music itself can be a blend of anime music and the occasional techno track. The people in the room can't dance for beans, and even someone who's only known DDR can tell that the dude to her right is trying to pass Kung Fu moves he pulled off of some Capcom game as dance moves. Then there was the dude who brought his lightsaber into the dance, and whenever he raised the blue glass rod, everyone in the room would immediatly start jumping up and down and screaming their heads off. Including me. It was very very fun.
The admin looking dude was drunk. I could smell it as he hilariously tried to hit on me. I've never been hit on before, and certainly never by a cute guy like him. I think his friend was after K-chan, but atleast he wasn't drunk too. K-chan was getting tired, and it took me awhile to think of a way to brush the drunk guy off in a polite but assertive manner. Hooray for clapping the dude on his shoulder and murmuring 'nice try'. rofl We got back just as Alex and Lain returned to their room with yummy red, yellow, and purple colored nachos, which I managed to spill all over the floor as I climbed into the chair to sleep. >.<; Atleast the floor smelt yummy afterwards?
Saturday I woke up late, and had to rush to get ready so that I could take the bus to the station with Kchan. We left the room at 9 something, and I tried my best to keep up with her speed walking in my boots. While waiting for the bus, she taught me some bus etiquette, and we watched lost cosplayers wander around, looking for the convention.
and...yeah...
Saturday Night The limo pulled up to the Hilton, and the fanime people got out. People were hecka staring at us as we walked through the convention in our prom dresses to get to our room. One even called out 'have a nice prom'. XDDD Showed up at the room, had to wait for my sister to show up with the key, and let them ooh and ahh over me. I didn't feel like sleeping or changing out of my dress yet, so Alex and I went to the rave. Hahaha, she stared at me like I was some alien when I started jumping around all excitedly. I think I felt happier dancing there than I did at prom. o.O My shoes felt like they were about to snap in half, so we decided to visit the gaming room. It was probably 1 in the morning or something at that point, but the hallways were still lively. I saw people playing card games and watching stage zero. And, as expected, there were still alot of people in the gaming room.
After that, we went to watch City of Violence (ridiculous mafia movie), and 200 Pounds Beauty. Even the movie runners were falling asleep at that point, and there weren't any movies we wanted to watch, so we went back to the room and crawled into bed around 4 in the morning.
On the way back though, I noticed that people were staring at me and my prom dress. And strangely enough, I kind of liked it...
Sunday I woke up to the sound of Alex falling out of the chair she was sleeping in, and then swearing with every dirty word I've ever heard. XD Botox and Manrat arrived around 9, and Masu went to watch a Doreamon movie. I brought her some cup ramen half an hour later ( I saw a person cosplaying as a cup of ramen on the way haha) and watched the rest of the movie with her. We wandered around the artist colony and dealer hall after that, and met with the others at Starbucks. And, sitting to the table to our right, was a final fantasy cosplay group! How wonderful!
Feeling hungry, we decided to walk to to Mickey D's, and like...we saw the perfect L cosplay sitting in a chair, drinking coffee, and typing on a laptop. heart Couldn't get a picture of them though, a sheet of glass made sure of that. We met Jen on the way, in her cute....outfit thing. And on the way back, Alex had me run halfway across the Marriot to take a picture of some guy she thought was void. -_-;
It's Misamisa and....another girl!
Masu and I went swimming after that, and Hilton's pools were ridiculous. Only three feet deep and pathetically small, it's max occupancy was five people. FIVE! I've seen kiddy pools that could beat that! Sometime while we were playing in the water, Alex and Mannie thought it'd be funny to steal our towels and ditch us. scream On to the hot pool, which was so sad that it cracked me up. Max occupancy = 2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA rofl If I wasn't shivering from the cold, I'd have died laughing. That teeny tiny little thing was smaller than my closet!
We returned to the room and started getting ready for the black and white ball. And...well...when there's so many girls sharing a bathroom, that takes a while. And everytime someone was in the shower, they'd lock the door and people would have to wait til they were out to use the mirror and stuff. By the time it was my turn to shower, the ball already started, so I told them to go on without me since I took forever. Only K-chan and Botox listened. Psh.
I did leave the door wide open so that the rest could still curl their hair and stuff. Like, there's no problem since we're all girls and friends to boot? And then Alex walked in just as I was stepping out of the shower, and screamed bloody murder when she saw the 'lake monster' in the bathroom. I so do not look like the chick from the Ring. sweatdrop
By the time we got in line for the ball, it already wrapped around the dealer's hall, so we took off our shoes and danced to the music in our cellphones. XD
The ball itself was alright, I didn't go to any of the dance lessons thanks to prom, so it took a while for me to learn the steps. Thankfully, there was a nice guy who was willing to teach us, and I had an awesome conversation about shonen manga while I was at it. I don't really agree with some of the music on their tracks though. Some of it was just not fit for ballroom dancing, and at one point, we were even dancing to what sounded like a metal version of the macarena song... I saw a pair that cosplayed as Rinoa and Squall dancing their cute dance thing! heart
The drunk dude from Friday cut in while Masu and I were waltzing. Boy, was that awkward. He spent the entire next song apologizing for his drunkeness the other day, and any rude things he might have said. I think I scared him off by having that one expression on my face that I use when ever I feel awkward. The kind of expression that looks like I'm disgusted by whatever I'm looking at. XDDD His hands were nice and warm against my waist though. whee
We were going to just stay in the room for the rave right after, but someone threw up on the floor, and the place had to be cleared out to be cleaned. So we went back to the hotel room to take pictures and watch Hannibal Lector. And around 11 or so, we went back and raved until we got bored.
Monday Woke up too late to watch anime, and we had a packing frenzy. Loaded our things into Msc's car, and left to do some shopping. Browsed the entire hall before buying anything, but by the time I was on the third cycle, time was running out and we had to go.
I really hate speed shopping. Reminder to myself that I either spend slowly or don't spend at all in the future. Later, I will wonder why I even bought some of the things I did.
So, this year's Fanime wasn't as great as the other years. It might have been because I didn't have as much time to shop, or that the prices were higher this year, or I didn't watch as many movies/anime/panels, or maybe it was that people were feeling kinda of grouchy and stuff all weekend. :/
hahaha, Final Fantasy get togethers
