Today was my last day in New York and we (my aunt, uncle, and two cousins) went upstate to go hiking.
We went up a mountain on a very well-placed path, which I have yet to figure is natural or not, to reach Kaaterskill Falls, I believe it was called. The temperature was good, the people were happy, and the water at the falls was cold!
My aunt said the hike was just like the way she used to get to school every morning, which I found funny.
Then, after we played in the water, I came back down a bit early and on the way I slipped in some mud and dirtied my pants. Speaking of which, I should be sitting on the floor, not the bed!
After that, we ate lunch and then we went to Howes Cavern, which I must say was the coolest freaking thing I ever saw! I went in a cave! AWESOME. There was a boat ride thing and we tried to sing and make an echo but all we made was people angry. xD The story behind the caves was really cute, too.. The guy who discovered them was a farmer and he explored the whole cave and then started to tour his friends through it. The trips used to cost fifty cents, and take eight hours, and you would get wading boots and a helmet and a packed lunch from Howe's wife. His daughter even got married there, and the tour guide showed us where. There was even a wedding going on in the cavern that day! The caves were 100 feet underground and there was an underground waterfall, and a twisty, extremely narrow path and another special path which leads to.. a "dome" thing, but it's supposedly really cool and it costs more and takes a separate trip. Anyway, it was really awesome. I'm rambling!
After that, we ate some more sandwiches and slept a lot on the way home, until we got close and just laid awake listening to Barbra Streisand. It was a very long, awesome day, and I leave tomorrow..
