Love Bites
Chapter 1: Love At First Bite
Damien got home from work at about four thirty in the afternoon. He wearily climbed the stairs to his room, the light creaking a pleasing note letting him know he was nearly in his bed. He finally was able to sit down and kick off his shoes. Damien laid back on his bed and let out a large yawn. He quickly drifted off to sleep.
His sister Rebecca came home while he was sleeping. He was in charge while their parent’s were on vacation. They were going to be gone for at least another month. Damien didn’t mind because his sister was all in all a bit of a goody two shoes. She brought her best friend Lacy along with her. “I’ll be back really quick. I’m just going to take a shower.” Rebecca said with a wink as she left her room with a change of clothes.
“Ok.” Lacy said rolling her eyes. She knew Rebecca took anything but quick showers. Rebecca would be in there for nearly an hour. Lacy went into Rebecca’s bag and pulled out a magazine. It was a magazine for prom dresses with most of them circled or crossed out. She admired the beautiful dresses, wishing she could wear one. “It would be nice to go to prom. To just be wanted for a day.” She sighed to her self depressingly.
In the next room, Damien knocked over his nightstand while waking up. “s**t!” He exclaimed wincing and holding his head. He only his cell phone and an alarm clock on it. Before he could fix it, Lacy ran to the room opening the door. He quickly looked up at her in surprise. “Lacy? What are you doing here?” It had been along time since Damien had seen Lacy. He was surprisingly glad to see her.
“Oh! Damien…” She sighed with relief. “I thought someone broke in.” She said taking time to breath before answering his question. She held her hand up to let him know she was just pausing. “I’m here hanging out with Becca.” She said with a pleasant smile knowing she was safe.
Damien looked behind her and out his door. He heard the shower running. “How long has she been in the shower?” He asked with a grimace.
Lacy laughed. “If you want to go watch something at the theater you’ll be back before she gets out.” She joked. “Just got in.”
He rolled his eyes and shook his head. Repeatedly tapping his fingers on his leg he thought for a moment looking at the time. It was about six forty-three. “Have the both of you eaten anything yet?”
“Not since lunch at school.” Lacy shook her head.
“Oh, cool.” Damien was pleased. “I’ll order us all pizza then.” He stood up and began to walk out of the room.
As Damien started down the stairs, Lacy shyly followed him. “I was wondering if I could spend the night. Becca said I’d have to ask you since you’re in charge.” She was looking off to the side as she asked.
He didn’t take long to think about it. “Sure. Its Saturday tomorrow anyway.”
Please, Lacy began to smile widely. “In that case do you want to rent some movies for the night?”
“Hell yeah. Its been way too long since I’ve seen anything. Lets go pick them up while she’s still in the shower. I’ll be outside, see what she wants.” Damien said putting on his other pair of sneakers.
Lacy only nodded as she went back up stairs to ask Rebecca. She opened the door and stuck her head in. “Hey Becca,” She called. “I’m staying the night. Me and Damien are going to go pick up some movies. What do you want to watch?”
Rebecca was a little startled an poked her head out of the shower curtain. “Ummmmmm…. Get anything scary.” She said. Rebecca had a couple things running through her mind. Damien had been single all his life and was looking. And she knew Lacy always liked Damien since she met him. Rebecca hated scary movies. She was hoping to get them together.
“Ok.” Lacy nodded and ran out. She smiled seeing Damien marveling at her car. “Do you like it?”
“This is yours?”
“Yup.”
“Wow… How can your parent’s afford to buy you this?”
Quickly Lacy’s face turned to normal. “They’ve been working more lately. A lot more money.” She looked down at her feet and kicked the dirt a bit. “Do you want to drive it?”
Damien smiled, but shook his head. “If I got us into an accident I would be seriously pissed. I You should just drive.”
Lacy opened the door and hopped into the car. Damien climbed slowly into the passenger’s seat. “You don’t mind if we stop at my house too, do you? I just want to pick up a few things.”
“Sure. We have got too much time to waste.” As they pulled out the driveway and drove down the street Damien felt compelled to ask her, “Why haven’t you been around these last two years? I thought about it and it really has been that long since I’ve seen you.”
Lacy stared out the window quietly. “Well, to tell the truth, it was partially because of the boyfriends I had and my parents. My parents left two years ago thinking I could take care of myself. I can, but I would rather them be around.” Damien’s face began to droop. “And other than that I was always with my boyfriends or out with Becca.”
“You know you got family here right?” He said referring to himself and Rebecca.
“Yeah.” Lacy smiled at him, but it did hurt her a bit he thought of her as just family.
