And now for something completely different...
...or as different as a damned blog can be, anyway. It started out as a project, it devolved into a chronicling of my misanthropy, rage, and occasional fits of glee. It sounds good, though, and might even make you laugh.
Scrooge McGaian
With regards to the people complaining about the idea of Gaian donations to charity, or specifically the Gaian interest in animal charities: Shut it, you lousy ******** hypocrites.

Anyone complaining about this idea-- which is, at the time of this journal entry, only an idea-- is utterly full of s**t when it comes to being the "better human being." Does it really matter if they're not voting for your charity of choice? No, because you can still donate your money and time. Someone else preferring the Humane Society to, say, the Women's Bean Project, doesn't negatively impact your own ability to give. Acting like it does means you're a t**t, and a stupid one to boot. Does preferring an animal-related charity make someone else insincere or stupid? No, and thinking that means you're pretty ignorant. Of course Gaians are going to prefer animals, because they tend to be younger. That means that not only are we dealing with "kids like fluffy animals," but we're dealing with people who, by and large, can't grasp more advanced concepts and are probably not as geopolitically or socially astute as adults. The finer sensibilities will come in time. Until that point, though, they want to help things that are helpless-- and I don't see how that's bad. These people at least have some impetus to give and to support organizations that work toward making a better world for all of us. I don't see how anyone can complain about that without being a baselessly self-righetous twatwaffle. This is "the ends justify the means" wrapped in fleece and cotton candy. If you want to hate on that, go ahead and tell me exactly what you did for the world today. No, "waking up and sharing your vast insight with you internet plebs" does not count.

The whole just kind of smells iffy to me. Kind of reminds me of how Donation Items were started and how they ended up in the long road.

I'm certain the whole thing is as gimmicky as those safety pins with glass beads they sell at the Gap, in that the donation being made is ludicrously tiny and serves more to make the donor feel warm than it does to actually do much. But I look at the larger picture and feel that really, if any charity is getting any help (or media exposure) from this, that's great. Goodness knows $2.50 is more useful to the SPCA than it is to some kid who wants an MC to lyke ttly b populr. I can't understand why so many people are actually pissed off about it, because at worst it's a fairly useless gesture.
