So we all know that the English and Japanese versions are different. But are there times where the English version has a different meaning or where the visuals are actually bloodier than the Japanese version? The answer is yes. I was watching episode 60 when it came out today on tv in Canada and I was surprised to find the following differences. They were so different that I had to compare them side-by-side to see just how different they really were and write this entry on them. There may be more in episode that I didn't cath, but here are some that I did:
Episode 60 scene with Kira who just revealed Wabisuke's power to Matsumoto and owned her with his math skills:
(English) Matsu: Izuru... tell me... what exactly do you want to do with her? (Japanese) Matsu: Gin... just what are you trying to do with this kid? (And this wasn't a fansubber's fault, it's what she says)
Me: ... WTH? O.o
Episode 60 in the scene where Aizen is all nice and then stabs Hinamori, in the English version we see the sword pierce her and in the Japanese version, it is in the shadow. In the English, it is full screen all the way through and we see that when she looks down, the sword is embedded in her chest. In the Japanese version, it is wide screened at that part and the brightness has been turned out making the colours seem a little washed out (Most likely from Hinamori's POV) and when she looks down, we do not see who the sword stabbed (possibly to make us question who was stabbed). In the English version we see and hear Hinamori fall to the ground and then it pans up from her laying on the ground to Aizen and his sword covered in her blood. In the Japanese version we hear (but do not see) Hinamori fall to the ground since the 'camera' is still on Aizen. And then from there it cuts to her on the ground and pans up to Azien and his sword covered in her blood.
They aren't major differences but this is a time where the Japanese version is a bit more 'censored' than the English version. (Ie: Not showing the sword actually pierce her, not showing her front covered in blood, not showing her fall to the ground covered in her own blood...) And the other one was just a confusing "Wth kind of a translation was that? What's Kira doing with whom?" kind of thing.
Yep. I just wanted to thrown this out there. ^-^
