Yeah, I have nothing to write about, so here's a one-shot for Kyo and Tohru
His eyes opened slowly to the dim light that slightly illuminated his dark bedroom. As always after waking up, he sat up slowly and stretched his arms above his head, and a single word popped into his head.
Tohru.
He lifted his nose into the air, and the scent of freshly prepared miso soup surrounded him in a pleasant cloud. She had obviously just finished cooking dinner. Any second now, she would knock quietly on his door, calling him to eat . . .
Knock, knock. He smiled. She was so predictable.
"Kyo-kun," A soft voice called, without opening the door. "Supper is ready."
"I'll be out in a second," he said, and cringed at the sound of his voice. It was harsh, loud . . . the total opposite of Tohru's.
He grabbed a pair of random cargo's off his floor, and dragged them on, thinking about how much Tohru was different than he.
She was beautiful. Kind, selfless, loving, shy, giving . . .
He was rude, ill-tempered, selfish. Dangerous. Hell, he had already injured her three times now! Not on purpose, of course, but still. She was delicate.
Delicate. Something else that made her different. So breakable.
He wanted her. He wanted to hold her, and tell her that he loved her. He wanted to take a few strands of her soft brunette hair and press them to his lips.
He wanted to protect her from . . . from . . .
From everything.
From those who wanted to hurt her for being so innocent.
From those who would take advantage of her.
From Akito.
From himself.
He walked in, still thinking these thoughts, and took his place between Tohru and Shigure.
"Kyo-kun?" Tohru asked, sensing something was wrong. "What's the matter? Are you feeling unwell?"
She reached for his forehead, attempting to find if he had a fever.
Unthinking, he reached up, and took her hand in his. "I'm fine, Tohru. Sheesh, You always think there's something wrong with me."
"Maybe that's because you always have a hideous scowl stuck to your face," Yuki said, taking a sip from his spoon.
Anger. Flashing red, filling his eyes.
"Listen, you damn-"
"Kyo-kun," Tohru said, trying to catch his attention.
He ignored her.
"You stupid rat, if ya want to start something, start it right. Don't hide behind a few stupid insults. If you want to fight me, just say so, you coward!"
He knew what would happen.
He knew.
He would lose this fight, just as he always did.
"Kyo," Shigure sighed, shaking his head. "Must you be such a drama queen?"
Another wave of red washed over him.
"Stay out of this!"
He turned back to Yuki, and continued to yell at him.
By the time he turned back to speak to Tohru, she was gone.
"Where'd she go?" He couldn't help but ask, feeling ashamed of how out of control he was.
"She left. Like I'm about to do," Shigure replied, getting up. "Honestly, Kyo, don't you see how stupid you are?"
Before Kyo could say anything, he vanished.
"What's wrong with you?" Yuki said, once more grabbing his attention. "Don't you see what's going on?"
"What the hell's wrong with me?" Kyo asked, ignoring that last statement, "what the hell is wrong with you? You always start this! You know just how to piss me off! I'm tired of this-"
"And I'm tired of you hurting Honda-san."
That stopped Kyo in his tracks.
"I've never hurt her," He said coldly, forgetting the few times when he actually had.
"Not that you know of," Yuki said calmly.
"AND WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?" Kyo yelled, getting angry fast. "You always do that! Talking strange, hoping I don't understand! You don't know anything! I would never in a thousand years-"
"She loves you!" Yuki yelled, taking him by surprise. "Everyday I watch her try to get through to you, and everyday I watch you ignore her, making her crumble. Tohru is the kindest person I have ever met, and here she wants to waste something as precious as her love on a stupid idiot like you! Can't you see? She loves you!"
Kyo was speechless. He had never noticed this. He was always too busy screaming obscenities at Yuki.
Kyo opened his mouth to say something, but he couldn't. Instead, he got up, and walked away, not knowing what to think.
Without pause, he went to his favorite place- the roof. As he climbed up, he heard the one sound that could make him want to fall to his knees- Tohru's quiet sobs.
He knew that Tohru had cried a few times before, always in private, so no one could see her weakness, and knew that for her to cry meant that she was really heart broken.
Without thinking, he sat beside her, pulling her into his arms, startling her.
So fragile.
"Kyo-kun," was all she could say, before tears fell down her face. She tried to turn away, so he couldn't see, so he lightly took her chin in his hand, and turned her back to him.
Her eyes . . . so beautiful, although so sad.
"Tohru," He said, staring into her eyes, wiping away her tears.
"I'm sorry."
She looked up at him, her watery gaze penetrating his, capturing his in a steady embrace. "It's fine," she whispered. "I'm okay."
He shook his head. "No."
He softly wiped under her eyes with his thumbs. "No."
He was aware that she was uncomfortable. Hell, he was too. But he didn't let her go. Instead, he pulled her into his lap, careful not to hug her. She looked at him curiously, probably wondering what the hell was he doing.
Do it.
Show her how much she means to you.
"Kyo-kun," she said, breaking through his thoughts. "I love you . . ."
She said this last part so quietly that he thought that he misunderstood her, but he knew that he hadn't.
"I love you too," he said. He smiled at her, running a hand through her tresses.
She smiled too.
He bent down to her, and finally kissed her, like he had always wanted to . . .
