Time flew by fast after the day the twins woke up from their mysterious illness that kept them asleep for days on end. A week passed by like it had only been a single day, soon followed by a month. Before the boys knew it it was already almost October and Halloween was drawing nearer. Halloween was a day thet the two had often looked foreward to year after year for as long as anyone could remember. Halloween was a day where you could be anything your imagination could think up, and by far the best day of the year as far as the Andrews twins were concerned. This year, it just so happened to be the day of the Burton High School dance. At Burton High, prom is the big dance for the seniors, as is in many other public high schools, but for the juniors, the Halloween Ball was their big dance and every student was pretty much required to go(not exactly by the school itself, but by one's peers) Everyone went to the Halloween Ball, it was Junior tradition and something kids of all ages looked foreward to within the district.
Life had picked up where it had left off after the twins return from illness, school was back to being crazy boreing, Curtis was back to cramming in as many books and overdue homework papers into both his and Riley's lockers that they could hold while Riley was juggling work, somewhat school-work and other issues that he hadn't exactly solved just yet;like talking to a certain girl about a certain dance for instance.
Curtis seemed to be having no problem with asking girls on dates, especially considering Riley was always right there with him just not asking at all and not caring about dances period and instead choosing to rent movies or go to concerts, something the twins did to escape the dance drama. but this year with it being the halloween ball and everything, things were a little different. They were actually planning on attending. Curtis had already been set, he found a girl to go with who actually asked him first in his language class one day. She had liked the article he had written for his language class discussing romance and emo music. Riley on the other hand was having a bit more trouble. He was thinkning of possibly taking a girl whom he had been alright friends with since they met freshman year; he thougt about asking her...somehow.
Today was September 29th; a somewhat special day i suppose you could say. Today was the twins 17th birthday, nothing to overly exciting...at least in the twins opinion. Neither Riley or Curtis were the type of people to embrace their birthdays and love them for everything they represent. In fact Riley and Curtis really didn't embrace anthing that had to do with themselves at all. Both twins had a nasty habbit of always putting himself down,then the other twin would always smack the first for saying something bad about himself;a strange cycle, this is true.
Curtis woke up first to an annoying alarm clock buzzing off to the side of his bed. He flipped the on/off switch and lay his head back down, closing his eyes once again. Not but a minute later Riley's alarm began to buzz, only his started ringing directly in his ear; seeing as he was laying his head atop of it while he slept; making him jump up in surprise and throw his covers over the side of his bed. He sat up and looked around and saw Curtis asleep still, then a moment later he pushed his head back onto his pillow and pulled his feet up on his bed again, leaving his blanket on the floor, closing his eyes once again as he slept for a minute longer.
3 MINUTES LATER...
Riley slowly opened his eyes and flipped on the light switch that was right in his reach from his bed. Two lights in the room flickered on above Riley's bed as he slowly sat up and looked around. He saw Curtis still laying in bed as he stood up and walked over to the bedroom door, holding a pair of pants in this hand. He walked to the bathroom door and turned on the light, squinting at the bright light that peirced the dark room. He slipped on his pants, brushed his teeth and finished getting ready for school in a few moments time, then headed back to his room. He opened his bedroom door to see Curtis buckeling his belt.
"Mornin'"Curtis said as he saw Riley enter their room.
"G'morning to you too." he said with a bit of a smile,"bathroom's all yours"
Curtis nodded as he slowly made his way towards the hallway.
Riley picked up his blanket off the floor and threw it unneatly onto his bed, not caring that it made his room look even more messy then it already was. He grabbed his bookbag which he had decorated with patches and set the single strap around his neck and shoulder letting it hang on the side. He grabbed his Algebra II book which was laying on the floor next to a bunch of his BIology II papers which he grabbed and shoved in his bookbag before heading downstairs. Once down the steps Riley took two pop-tarts out of the pantry, opened the package and stuck them in the toaster on low heat. He was soon joined by Curtis who did the same only with two smore poptarts instead of brown sugar cinnamon. After a quick breakfest the twins each grabbed a bottle of water and a 5 dollar bill off of the calender which was laying next to a note left by their mom. It read:

Good Morning Birthday Boys!
i just wanted to say i wish you
both a most wonderful 17th
birthday today! Here's some
lunchmoney for today and
remember to be ready when i
come home to leave! i got a
surprise for you boys!
i love you both very much
and am so very proud to be
your mother.have a great day!

Curtis gave a smile to Riley after reading it outloud to share with is brother and Riley smiled back a bit too. The twins headed out the door, locking it behind them and headed towards their bustop.
"So what do you think she means by surprise?"Riley asked.
"i haven't a clue...i mean what could it be though? she'd usually not home until pretty late...you think she'll really be home?"
Riley shrugged, "who knos...i mean it could just be like last year when we got picked up at around 5 o'clock by that taxi and we got taken to mom's work to spend our night there. that actually was pretty cool though bc we got to run all around the building and no one knew we didn't actually work there."
Curtis laughed. "yeah and rememebr the twirly chair races we had in the boardroom?"
Riley laughed too, "Yeah and then when that one crazy old guy walked in and had that hilarious look on his face when he saw you run into the closet door!"
"hey now! you did it too!"
"yea..tis true" Riley said with a grin.
"Anyways i'm sure today'll be alright"
"yep! if only we didn't have to go to school, then it would be even better"
"i hear ya there my brother!"
They walked to their stop where the bus was waiting for them and climbed up the steps, heading towards the back where they took their seats and slipped on their headphones for the ride.
