Background: Mirai was the only child born in America, out of her Japanese immigrant family. Like other immigrants, her family shrived to become “American”. Her family, that traveled over to America, contained her mother, father, two older sisters, and her grandmother. Since her parents so longed to be like other Americans, Mirai became their favorite, which of course angered her sisters. Because of her sisters’ jealousy, they would team up on her and bully her.
Because of all the horrible things her sisters had told her to scare her, Mirai was terrified of the dark. She never wanted to be alone, because she thought some monster, or killer, was going to come after her. One night, when Mirai was six years old, a joke went to far. Her two sisters has told of a shadow creature that could only live in shadows and would ate the youngest of every family. Of course Mirai didn’t want to be in any darkness after that. So to “help” their dearest youngest sister, they told her that her face was to dark And so to save Mirai, they had to shine a bright light on her. This bright light was so bright, it ended up blinding her for the rest of her life. Forever she had to live in darkness.
This caused Mirai to become even more frightened. Her parents had to stay with her constantly, or she would burst out into a screaming fit. Since her grandmother was a witch and didn’t want to see her baby granddaughter so miserable, the grandmother blessed her with a gift of seeing.
Sadly this “blessing” made things worse for poor Mirai. It didn’t help her blindness at all, but instead gave her the power to see the future and the past. She would have horrible dreams of murders, suicides, and anything tragic. Mirai soon was afraid to go to sleep.
Her parents tried sending her to therapy, but it didn’t work. All of her therapists would tell her parents that she needed metical help. After three years of therapy, Mirai was sent to a mental institution. She was kept there for eight years, and yet the doctors still couldn’t help her.
On her 17th birthday, her parents signed a contract stating that they would take care of Mirai. After getting out of the institution, her parents bought her a seeing eye dog, so that she wouldn’t ever have to be alone.
Now she still lives day by day in la la land, talking to signs and calling her dog daddy. Though she has indeed lost her mind, Mirai still helps people with her dreams. She knows now that whatever she dreams will come true, so Mirai makes sure they never happen. One way or another.
