Wow, after today I think I know what peace is.
It had stopped raining hard, and was just a light drizzle when I set out this afternoon with the car (incase it started to pour) and my camera. It was only a short drive up the the old graveyard, and I finally got the chance to get the pictures I've been dieing to get. The fact that it was darkish, cool, and rainy just helped to set the mood.
I pulled just a short ways in, and got out of my car to be greated by the raccous screaming of many unseen crows. If that's not omnious when you're in a graveyard in October, I don't know what is. I wandered all around the place, getting pictures of tombstones, and taking the time to read some of them. I've lived by this cemetary all of my life; I've wandered through it countless times before. But this time it was like seeing it through new eyes. The graves were so old! All of them from the 1800's!
I took pictures of ones with nice detailed carvings, ones that were sunk or bent on neat angles. Some of the stones have been replaced with newer granite ones, and one was nestled between two still flower trees. It was like magic in there! And then I started to hear things. If it hadn't been such a delay, I'd have said the beep from my camera was echoing, and there was a noise I still can't put my finger on, but I'll blame on the crows. It was like the world stayed still in there, like most of the noises of the rest of the world were blocked out unless they were very close.
Just as I was getting ready to leave, I finally saw one of the crows. And of course my camera is out of space just as he's jumping up to pose on the tomb stones! Just after that I found the remains of the old stone fence that used to run around the place. I want to explore more some time before the winter sets in, and I can't wait to upload these pictures tomorrow!
