I understand that loved ones live on forever as long as they are kept within our hearts but when I heard the news from my friend that she had lost someone in a car accident so close to Christmas I couldn’t believe it. Plus I could feel her pain so strongly that I was brought on to the verge of tears for both her and her friends. I may not have ever met this person but the sadness was no less real then someone who had. The poem that follows is in no way meant to seem like a master piece it is just something I wrote to empty out some of my feelings. But when reading the poem or this little body before it I hope you think of the ones you hold dear and be happy you have them for Christmas and all the days that follow…


Lost Forever

Loving smiles and warm hugs
They’re there for you when it matters most
Of course there’s always family
But nothing beats a friend

You sit alone in a classroom
And they’re the ones to come over to say hi

Never before did it occur
That you could ever be taken so swiftly…

Weekend plans and late night calls
How could we ever see
That it would come to an end

Even now I lay awake…
And believe perhaps I’ll see you again…

There’s an empty chair where you’re meant to be
But now every school day will not be the same
How could this happen
To one so sweet

A true friend
That is what you were to me…
And now you’re gone

When I heard the news I cried all night
And then all day
This was impossible
No not you

You could never die
Not this early in the game
But…you did
Taken so suddenly and swift

And by the hands of another
Oh lord why
Why take someone so sweet
She was my best friend

Don’t you understand
What you have done
On that icy night
When my friends went for a ride

That icy road

Has stolen a Christmas from her
Every Christmas
From her family
From her friends
From everyone she’s ever loved
Or blessed with her warming presence

Now I can never meet up with her
Or have her come over to my house

No more laughing at things only you and I could understand.
Your lost
Taken way from me
Forever…
