Solon sensed it, a feat of metallurgy enough to rival, or even surpass what he held in his hands. But it slept not in the hands of those before him, it cried out from somewhere across the river, a cry no naturally crafted ore would make. Such a sound could only come from a metal imbued with unholy power, such power never meant to see the light of day. A cry sounded at least twice as loud as the artifact in his hands, for all metal screamed with he pain of being smelted, but this was almost unholy, such a deep dark shriek of terror that none of his kind would have survived the crafting, being reduced to babbling wrecks just by touching them (not even on the sharp side, if there was one).

It was just then that he realized the link between what had created them, and what he set out to destroy. With this he was filled with such a fury as to give away his hiding place, risking his own life in the process, and request help.

Leaping out from behind the bush and brandishing his axe, solon began his proclamation loudly and with as little of his accent as possible (not altogether too difficult, as he had already lost some of it through living around humans for a few years). Altogether hoping to bluff his way to directions to the nearest bridge, (or boat): "My friends it seems that you have been followed by no mere animal of the woods, but a servant to the mighty Warrior bane of all existence. I seek to smite this being, and that begins with his servant across yonder water. Put simply my good sirs I seek directions to the nearest bridge, so that I may rid the world of such evil."

He let fly with his speech and hoped that the abruptness would leave them confused enough to ignore the espionage he had just performed upon them and simply give him what he wanted, passage across the river...
