if dogs could talk 13
I could hear the sound of cars pulling into the master’s driveway, and I heard voices I never heard before. Certainly I heard Master’s, Gordo’s. But I also heard other humans, and another dog. Could that be Bleda Oasch, that German Shepard that everyone was ranting about? His bark was a deep and low one that reverberated throughout the house. I decided to leave my room to investigate. I made my way down the steps and through the kitchen where Master and his friends where conversing with other people, or at least trying to. Most of them spoke some language I couldn’t’ understand. At one point Gordo said to one of them, “So…Uh, you dudes uh… habla English?” The people who where new around here merely laughed and said , “ist er verzögerte” (“Is he retarded?”) to which Draken stepped forward and pronounced in a clear voice, “es ist nicht seine Schuld, sein Vati war eine Mama war betrunken. wie Mutter wie Sohn, Recht?” (“It’s not his fault, his mom was a drunk. Like mother like son, right?”) They all looked taken a back and said, “Sie sprechen German?! Verdammt glaube ich, dass wir jeden dann nicht beleidigt haben sollten...” (“You speak German?! Damn, I guess we shouldn’t have insulted everyone…”) “es ist ganz richtig, jetzt lässt werden angefangen.” (“that’s alright, now lets get started.”)

Master Draken whistled for me to come over. I guessed that it was time to get started. I felt no fear, I was ready, I could feel my adrenaline dumping into my blood like a waterfall. Then I saw him… Bleda Oasch. He was huge. His body scared from snout to paw from fight after fight. I my self had achieved such scars, but not to that extant. We both circled each other, waiting for one of use to strike the other. I saw his eyes where as empty as death, his lips foaming, teeth a golden yellow and fur on end. “Come on, I’m waiting!” He said to me. Then the thought of Sparky came into my head. This is exactly how he would act. He would stand off and wait. He was always too afraid to do anything I won’t be like him… I WON’T!!! I lunged forward, snarling and howling madly. I felt two paws strike me down to earth and pin me down. I could hear everyone in the room cheering and chanting. I felt teeth dig into my back. I rolled around to shake him off, but he was too heavy. The something in me snapped; a state of insanity. It felt… it felt… it felt…good? I decided. Yes, that was the word for it… Good. I liked it. I ravished in it. I felt at home with it. I welcomed it, I let it consume me. I felt powerful, stronger, faster, smarter… I felt unstoppable.

I sprung up, sending Bleda Oasch flying off of me and into a cabinet that rested in the corner of the room, nearly hitting Gordo and a new German friend he made. His likely 100lb. body fell to the hard, rotting wood with a very distinct thud. He looked into my eyes, and I saw his. They where wide with fear at the sight of mine. I began to drool at the thought of attacking. “What the hell are YOU?!” Bleda asked fearfully. I began to laugh crazed, “I’m hungry…” Bleda began to shake, and I jumped forward, bighting anything I could. I could hear the distant sounds of yelps from Bleda’s pain, the sound of Draken screaming, “Gruff, no! STOP!” It was useless. I continued. The taste and smell of blood fueled my insanity. Primal instinct had taken over. Bleda was dead, but that didn’t stop me. BANG!!! I stopped in surprise. It was the German man, Der Teufel (*name means, “The devil”*) had a metallic thing that was smoking. It had a little hole in the middle of it that was pointed at me. Was he threatening me? ME? ME?! You can’t hurt me! Nothing can!

I darted towards him. He fired the metal thing at me again, and then again, and again. BANG, BANG, BANG. Finally I felt a little pebble sized piece of metal hit the meaty part of my leg, just barely hitting it leaving a small cut. This did not detour me form my movement at all. I jumped onto him and began to bight. Then another hot fired, this time hitting my eye, but not from Der Teufel, from Draken. I staggered back from the now limp figure, eye bleeding steadily. Master? Master! Why did you stop me? Are you just like them? Do you wish me to fight you too? Alright, you too then…I jumped towards him, and after that everything went black. The next thing I noticed was that I was walking on the freeway, fur soaked in blood, left eye shut but still bleeding, and a slight limp in my back right leg. Only one thought floated in my head, kill.

These are my final moments alive, and I shared the moments leading up to them with you. What happens next…? I meet Sparky. Poor innocent Sparky… He just ran away from his new “Family.” We met only a few blocks away. I was wandering and ran into him as he made it out. I think he was out for a few days, but everything is beginning to run together in the last few moments. Time is short for me. Sparky, I am sorry for what I did to you. I am sorry for all that I thought about you. Calling you foolish, saying you where a bad dog… I was wrong. You are a very good dog. You are my brother, and I love you. I am also sorry for all of those I killed. What was I thinking, oh lord what was I thinking? That cat, those dogs, Bleda, Der Teufel, mas- I mean, Draken… I …I… I killed them all. Some didn’t deserve it, and the ones that did, well that isn’t for me to decide. I am sorry to all who I hurt. I just wanted to be back home I suppose. Back to the way things where.

There is one more chapter to my life, and that is where I and Sparky meet again, but I feel too tired, I can not say too much more… too… tired…too…tired… to talk any more… Good bye…
