Chapter 24: Not on the Map

Ashley had just gotten her a** kicked by some random hot…witch! I was dumbfounded, amazed, and in pure shock to say the least! This girl, this…Star, didn’t have any type of Mages’ jewelry whatsoever. Just did what she did barehanded!

“If I were you, I’d follow. Get your friend and come on!” Star said walking away. Snapping out of my state of shock, I ran over to Ashley, checking her vital signs. She was very much alive (thank God), just unconscious. I picked up my best friend and trotted to catch up to arresting, mysterious, and powerful beauty that was Star.

We walked only for about ten minutes and Star stopped at the bottom of a small hill. She took a deep breath and began to chant at a whisper. Her melodious voice grew louder with the repetitions of the chant until finally a hole opened up the hill! I didn’t ask questions, just followed.

“Welcome!” Star greeted moving aside. Doing this, she revealed an entire valley! ‘A valley, so what?’ you may ask. What sat in this valley was an elaborate, modern city!

“What is this, Star?” I asked.

“It’s my home! The Lost Village,” she told me. I pulled out my map and looked it over, only to see that where we were standing was just flat land as we’d been traveling on! No mention of any valley at all. “Not there is it?” she smiled.

“No, it’s not!” I said putting it away.

“Well, follow me, cutie and we’ll fix your friend,” Star said giggled with a wink. She lead me through a sloping tunnel and then through a giant set of gates leading into the lively city.

She’d called me ‘cutie’ and I don’t think you’re so stupid as to need an explanation of what that means. I may have been just a cutie to Star, but she was absolutely gorgeous! I hadn’t noticed Ashley mumbling in my ear. She had regained consciousness but was still very out of it.

“Dy~!” she whined nudging my head with hers.

“Oh good you’re awake!” I said happily. I was so relieved to see that that she’d woken up much earlier than I’d expected. “Star is taking us to get you some help, despite her being the one who did this to you.”

“I’m sorry! I told I was only doing my job! Now I’m breaking the rules for you, now get over it!” she said with a teasing tone of voice at the end. By the time she finished saying that, she stopped in front of a small building.
“What is this place?” Ashley asked finally realizing what was going to a very small degree.

“It’s the building I report to for work. Me and my team work here when we’re not in the field,” explained Star. It was an office building with four rooms along each wall. Half of these had a name that was printed on a sign hanging from the door.

Star walked up to one that said ‘Sparkness’ and knocked. A girl opened the door with a, “Yo.”

“Hey Nicky I need a huge favor!” Star stated sweetly.

Nicky raised an eyebrow and poked her head out of the door to see me with Ashley on my back. “This is your favor? Outsiders? That you didn’t report because it’s a favor?” she asked.

“Yes!” Star replied.

“…Bring ‘em in!” Nicky agreed backing into the room. I was instructed to lay my partner on a low table in the room. After I did so, she looked at me for a moment and said, “Call me Sparkness.”

“All right, Sparx!” was my grinning reply. She shrugged and began to undress Ashley, but stopped and looked up at me. “Do you mind?”

“She’s my best friend! I know what’s under there!” I told her.

Sparx gave Star a look this time and they both shrugged. With a giggle, Sparx continued her examination. Ashley lay still, looking up at me. There was a large burn on her abdominal area where Star had hit her. “Damn! What the hell happened?” Sparx asked covering her mouth at the sight of it.

“That was Star’s doing! Fire punch from a ten foot pillar of ice!” I recalled.

“Ah.”

“Yeah! But I can’t be mad at her though. She beat me on fair terms, and that’s it!” Ashley said quietly. It hurt to talk loudly or too much for the burn would sting too much.

“Well, like I said, I’m sorry and I really hope we can become friends!” Star apologized with a blush across her face. I nodded and wrapped her in a hug.

“Oh, please!” Sparx murmured rolling her eyes. Star stuck her tongue out at her and hugged me tighter. Sparx then began to heal Ashley with her bare hands as well! Just as Star had done this to her, Sparx was fixing it!
