"Mommy! Where is daddy going?" a little girl, not much older than the age of 8, whimpered quietly. Her short, lavender hair was tightly pulled into a short braid while dressed in a light blue silk nightgown that reached down toward her ankles. In her tiny hands clenched a tiny kitten that clung around her fingers, apparently frightened by some odd reason. Her tall, slender mother glanced down at the young child, her worried look replaced with a soothing smile. Squatting down to the girl, her fingertips brushed the girl’s long bangs to reveal the midnight blue orbs that hid her enchanting eyes.
"Nothing to fear, child. Mommy is very busy at the moment. Go upstairs with your older brothers, okay?" The woman whispered gently, caressing the girl’s cheek while giving her a thin smile. The little girl peered at her mother and grinned broadly, nodding her head vigorously at her mom’s suggestion.
"Mommy, will they go play with me and Yarushi?" The little girl piped up, extending her arms to expose the tabby kitten to the violet-haired woman, "Yarushi wants to play pirates, too!" The woman silently chuckled at her daughter’s innocence as she bobbled her head up and down. Patting the girl on the head, she gestured her to the white-painted wooden door. The small girl trotted toward the door and looked back at her mother, the kitten still cradled in her arms.
"Of course they will, sweetie. Stay with your brothers and listen to what they tell you," her mother instructed in her naturally soft-toned voice, "Never wonder out of the palace. If you see someone in the palace you don’t know, tell one of your brothers, and they will come fetch me. And don’t talk to anyone on your way to your brothers’ hallway. Stay with Hoshiro." The girl pressed her lips together and let out a whine, stomping her foot on the marbled flooring.
"But I wanna go with Brother Syusuke, Mommy! Brother Hoshiro is mean!" she cried angrily, frowning at her mother’s demands.
"Okay, stay with Syusuke," her mother hushed, "But if you hear someone come running up the staircases, you and Syusuke will have to go to Hoshiro’s room. Your eldest brother knows well." The girl nodded, smiling happily.
"May I take Yarushi with me?" the little girl asked, making the grip on the kitten tighten, "Yarushi is afraid of the dark, mommy." Her mother nodded as she walked her daughter out to the main hallway, each step was isolated in silence.
"You may take your kitten with you. Just don’t leave with anyone you do not recognize. Stay with your brothers at all costs." The little girl casually shrugged, "And remember to keep quiet when you go to Syusuke. Don’t grab any unwanted attention." The girl yawned at her mother’s instructions, but gave her a quick nod. Her mother gently pushed the girl’s back, signaling her to go, and so she did. Though the girl didn’t know what was going on, her mother hastily went back into the master bedroom.
Every night there were to be big bangs echoing through the night sky. Whenever the girl asked what was that sound, she either got ignored or was told to never mention it again. The little girl was never allowed to wonder outside of the palace, and her options to open the windows to the palace were rationed. All these events increased ever since last week, but she didn’t question why. From the glass windows up in her room, she had seen men wearing leather uniforms along with mechanic robots engulfing the palace. It gave her nightmares when she caught sight of them, so her curtains to her bedroom were normally drawn shut.
"Mommy is acting weird," she told herself quietly as she trailed up the silent stairs, "Daddy went out of the palace today. Mommy said no one was allowed out of the palace. She said curfew was a 9:00. I wanna go out of the palace with daddy...but she said to go to Brother Syusuke... Daddy will come back tomorrow morning, I’m sure." She kept the little conversation with herself adjourned when she reached the bedroom door of Syusuke. Before she knocked on the door for entrance, the door plunged open, knocking her back. Tumbling down onto the marble floors along with Yarushi still in her arms, she heard a gasp.
"Sakiko? What are you doing up so late? Curfew is at 9:00!" A tall figure emerged from the shadows. The moon’s rays entered the hallway through the drawn windows, illuminating a boy at the age of 12, his glossy violet hair shifted to the side of his head as he stared at the lavender-haired girl. His face sulked in tiredness. The little girl smiled and gazed up at the broad-shoulder boy.
"Brother Syusuke!" she cheerfully squealed, propping to her feet, "Mommy said to stay with you. I wanna play pirates!" The boy looked at his younger sister in annoyance, but immediately his expression molded into a soft one.
"Pirates, again? It’s already midnight, and you’re still hyper?" he smiled, "No. Mother said to come here, right? Come in, and let’s go to bed. Mother said we’re moving out of the palace. Out of Japan." The girl scrunched her face up and stuck out her lower lip in a pout.
"Moving? Why do we have to go away from this big house?!" she questioned.
"Enough questions, Sakiko," the boy sighed heavily, "If you must know, we have to move for our protection, our safety." With that, the boy hoisted the skinny girl against his back as he carried her and her kitten inside the bedroom.
For sure, all her questions were answered, except for one.
Protect ourselves from what?
* * * * * * * * * * "Mommy?! Brother Hoshiro?!" she cried, staring at the red liquid the surrounded the lifeless bodies of the girl’s mother and oldest brother. Her body trembled in fear as the screech of bullets blasting through the air swirled the darkened sky. She froze in her spot, the spark of fright swallowing up all her nerves as her whole body collapsed in paralyze. Her clothes were drenched in blood as she fell to her knees, water beads escaping her midnight blue eyes that everyone admired. All she can see were the death of her family were put to sleep in front of her.
A lump of saliva bulged down her dry throat as she whimpered, her body shaking terribly from the sudden shock. Suddenly, she coughed up blood, slightly choking. Cold sweat dribbled down her forehead as her attention was occupied by the thunder of choppers flying through the sky. She held her throat, another batch of blood escaping her system and onto the dirt floor of the battle field. She cried out loudly and gasped as she saw a mechanical robot pounce on a human being, drilling its gun like hand into the guy’s head and pulling the trigger. The man flew across the flat area, a burst of blood shooting out from his head as he dropped down...dead.
Everywhere she turned, she was introduced by the same slaughter. Robots overpowering the troops of Japan. Gripping her head, her eyes grew big as she started having trouble breathing.
Everywhere. Blood.
Everywhere. Corpses.
Everywhere. Death.
All she can see was blood, as he mind was consumed by the a bloody death scene. Her perfect life...was now scarred in a corrupted path of death. She wanted revenge. To show Britannia that same pain she endured the dreadful day. She wanted them all dead.
