"Are you stepping on my cornflakes, Goodbottom? Let me tell you about stepping on someone else's cornflakes. It's a really weird way to eat cornflakes."- Hoss Delgato from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
"How about, I am? That's the shortest sentence I know." - Officer Short from the Phantom Tollbooth
Lost & FOUND
You know that cat yesterday? I found its owner! Without even trying! I took it outside with me when I was going to pick up my little brother from the bus stop. I carried it a lot of the way, trying to warm it up with every cold wind. Then, the wind got even wilder and it wanted to be let down, so I let it down. I was wondering whether or not to try and
ditch it(I didn't want to leave it here in the cold) when this black car came to the curb (we'd stopped at one of my friends' houses, not far away from mine and not that far from the curb, but far enough so that she wouldn't be able to get a clear view of the cat. I was standing in front of it, too, and it was in the bushes, trying to get warmer probably.) She described the splotch on the cat's face, so I guessed it was hers. Now, I wonder...she had dirty-blond hair (the kind that's blond and streaked brown) and either blue or green eyeshadow. She wore mascara, too, I think.
She never called the cat by its name, but I didn't really care. When I held the cat out to her, it struggled to be let free, but the lady was kind of sort of crying, like a few tears came out. She said thanks and left. The cat I guess was subdued after it was in her hands. I don't remember.
So she drove off. My mom had bought food and a bed for it, so she was a bit put out that I didn't tell the lady to come over and pick it up, or ask her where she lived. But I had to get my brother.
Ever since I was small, I'd always wanted a pet. A cat, most preferably. Then, when I finally got one, I was all like, "I hope someone comes and picks you up" and "It'd be hard living and trying not to step on its tail" and other things. I didn't want it, probably because I've read so many books that I know that even though it had no collar, it probably belonged to someone (it was well groomed) and I shouldn't get so attached. We called and animal shelter and they told us to call animal control. I was all worried like, doesn't animal control kill the animals? Now I'm glad that then either no one picked up or they said they couldn't help us.
I think that now, even if it had been a cat I'd known would be all mine, I wouldn't have wanted it after a while. Because cats need attention, and care. They'd follow me and I'd have to be careful. Right now I'm not responsible enough for a pet. During that time I was like, "I don't want to have to take care of it" and all my thoughts were about when I was going to have it leave. I was thinking summertime-wise.
